What to look forward to from Marvel between now and next year

Marvel’s Phase Three has been well underway since the last two years providing us with great movies such as Captain America: Civil War, Doctor Strange, Guardian’s of the Galaxy and Spider-man Homecoming. Given the great moments Phase Three has already provided us with it’s far from finished with four films still to be released from now until 2019. This article will show you upcoming Marvel projects in both films and TV shows that you should be looking forward to from the back end of 2017 to the start of 2018. (This will not include Avengers Infinity War Part 2 and Captain Marvel)

Thor: Ragnarok ( 17th November 2017)

The third instalment of the Thor series set to be directed by Taika Waititi

In case you have been living under a rock (no pun intended) the third instalment of the Thor franchise is set to be released in November. Now I haven’t been the biggest fan of the solo Thor films prior to this but I can’t help get excited for Thor Ragnorok. Seeing Thor battle against the Hulk regardless if it lasts for two or ten minutes is going to be worth the ticket price alone. Then you throw Loki in the mix along with Doctor Strange! This will definitely be a must see for any comic book fan. What I liked from the trailer was the tone of humour as well as how the film looked. The look of Ragnorok seems to be heavily influenced by that of Guardians of the Galaxy universe. As someone who doesn’t find the Thor movies that good this does look it would break the bad streak for me by taking the franchise in a positive direction.

The Punisher Netflix Series (TBA)

Jon Bernthal set to return in his role as The Punisher in his highly anticipated standalone series

After Frank Castle’s involvement in Netflix’s Daredevil season 2 the ex war vet is finally getting his own spin off show. Although there has been no official release date set, the recent release of teaser trailers indicate that it could come out later this year or at least the spring of next year. The recent Netflix marvel series such as Iron Fist, Luke Cage and The Defenders have not provided the best watching experience as they don’t live up to the heights of the Daredevil season 1. Although I wasn’t the biggest fan of Daredevil season 2 my favourite parts of the whole series was when Frank Castle was involved with the main story. Part of my anticipation of this series is Jon Bernthal’s great performance in his portrayal of Frank Castle. Hopefully in his upcoming standalone series we get to know more about Frank Castle’s past and of course with some awesome action scenes.

Black Panther (February 2018)

Chadwick Boseman is set to be joined by a star studded cast in what could potentially be the start of a Black Panther franchise

King T’Challa is set to return to the big screen in his first solo film after his role in Captain America: Civil War that left me begging for more. As this film is set to place after the events of Civil War I can’t wait to see how T’Challa will cope with the death of his father while inheriting the title ‘King’ of Wakanda. The trailer showed that this film is going into a different direction than the films such as Guardians of the Galaxy and Thor. It comes across as a more serious film possibly a political thriller over the crown of Wakanda as T’challa is certain to face competition by those in envy. It’s also hard to ignore the star studded cast that comes along with this film which will feature the likes of Michael B. Jordan Lupita Nyong’o Angela Bassett and Forest Whitaker. I would also love to see how much of T’Challa’s origins we will get to see as there are a lot of avenues to explore from the comics.

Avengers Infinity war (May 2018)

Avengers Infinity War set to be the biggest film ever, one that will certainly change everything

Do I really need to say anything about this film? This has been 7 years in the making ever since the first glimpse of Thanos at the end of The Avengers (2012). This film will be a dream for comic book fans around the world. We get to see characters interact on the big screen that never have before. I can’t wait to see the likes of Doctor Strange and Tony Stark to finally meet each other for the first time. Could we also see surprise appearance from a few Marvel characters that have their own Netflix series? With action scenes that have been described to contain over fifty characters I can’t wait to see how the Russo brothers direct this movie. Who will survive? Who will Die? How much of the marvel universe will be left after this film? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Ant-Man and the Wasp (July 2018)

With the film set to wrap up shooting in November we should start to promotional material pop up soon.

Granted after the possible events of Infinity War this does seem like an odd movie to follow up what would be marvels biggest movie ever. Paul Rudd will once again return to the Ant-Man suit but this time he will be joined by the Wasp who is to be played by Evangeline Lilly. This will certainly be a more uplifting and funnier film compared to most Marvel films and may prove to best choice after a film like Infinity War. It’ll be interesting to see how Ant-Man will try to balance being a superhero while trying to stay involved in his daughters live. Will him and the Wasp work together well in taking down his next challenge? There will definitely be a lot of highs and lows for both Ant-Man and the Wasp which should mean we are in for a great journey.
