Rumour: Henry Cavill’s Superman To Appear in Shazam?

According to ‘Revenge of The Fans’ the next time we will get to see Henry Cavill’s Superman on the big screen is in DC’s upcoming Shazam film. Shazam is set to be released next April and is directed by David Sandberg. Granted this isn’t the first time I’ve heard these rumours but ‘Revenge of The Fans’ have a good reputation and claim to have a trusted source for this scoop. As for what I think about Superman turning up in Shazam? I think it would be a really good idea. I’d like to see Superman play a mentor role to Billy Batson who will be a new inexperienced hero in Shazam. Superman is definitely someone that can show him the ropes of what it’s like to be a superhero. There is also a theory that one of the kids interviewing Superman at the beginning of Justice League is Billy Batson so they could tie that in if they wanted to.

My one worry with this idea is would Superman’s presence in this film be too much and take away from Shazam himself? If they do this it has to be done right. In my opinion the use of Iron Man in Spider-Man: Homecoming was too much and in general the film suffered because of this.

I put together a slideshow of a few comic pages from various series to show what Shazam and Superman’s relationship could look like on the big screen:

One last thing I would like to add is that Henry Cavill according to a lot of people has only one film left on his Warner Bros. contract (granted this has never been confirmed) .So could this be the last time we see his Superman on the big screen ever? I would love for them to give him another solo Superman film before recasting the role in my opinion. There seems to be a lot of rumours surrounding the studio rather than confirmations at the moment. Well what we know for certain is that Shazam is set to be released on April, 5 2019.

Let me know what you think about this rumour down below?

Do you want to see Superman show up in Shazam?

Remembering Heath Ledger 10 Years Later

10 years ago we lost Heath Ledger, not only did we lose one of the best main villains ever to grace the big screen but we also lost an amazing actor and person in general. I cannot believe how quickly time has flown. It feels like I was just watching him as The Joker in The Dark Knight a couple of months ago. Granted Heath Ledger had made his name way before stepping into the role of The Joker with his performances in films such as ‘Brokeback Mountain’, ’10 Things I Hate About You’ and ‘A Knight’s Tale’. However my first introduction to Heath Ledger was with his iconic performance as The Joker in ‘The Dark Knight’. Now when I first watched The Dark Knight I believe I was about 10 years old, way too young to watch the film at the time now that I think about it. All I remembered from The Dark Knight was how incredible The Joker was. What I loved the most about Heath’s performance when first watching it was I didn’t even care about the actor at the time all I saw was The Joker, I was so taken back by his performance.

Only after watching the film I came to find out that Heath had actually passed away before the film came even out. Correct me if i’m wrong but I don’t believe Heath actually got to see the final product of his work like we all did. I was heart broken to find this out given the amount of work he put into this role. Heath was in full creative control from the look, mannerisms and even the dialogue with The Joker. Reading a past interview from Christopher Nolan with the BBC he claimed that he learned a lot from the way Heath created this character and his performance in general. If that’s not one of the biggest compliments ever then I don’t know what is.

Looking back on Heath’s performance in The Dark Knight it’s so hard for me to pick just one of his scenes as my favourite. If I were to use a word to describe his performance it would be ‘unpredictable’. You didn’t know what you were going to get next with The Joker. You certainly didn’t trust him and you had no idea of what he was planning. This is shown in scenes where Batman interrogates him for the first time, they should have just given him his Oscar for his performance in that scene alone. No where is the unpredictably of the Joker is shown in the scenes where he describes his origins. He changes it all the time especially about how he got his scars. The scene where he crashes the party is incredible, his performance to this day still has me on edge when he’s talking about putting a razor blade in his mouth providing with yet another story on how he got those scars.

Recently I also watched the new ‘I Am Heath Ledger’ documentary which I cannot recommend highly enough for anyone to watch. It really made me appreciate the person Heath Ledger a lot more. I saw him as someone who was more than just an actor. He lived his life as a free spirit, did what he wanted, put his family and friends first. As much as he loved acting he didn’t enjoy the limelight that came along with it. If you didn’t know Heath actually turned down the role of Peter Parker in the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies because of this. Anyone else would have probably taken that chance in a heartbeat, it really says a lot about him as a person.

Heath Ledger remains the only actor to receive an Oscar for a role in a comic book movie. (Best Supporting Actor, 2009)

Now 10 years later what is Heath Ledger’s legacy? Well for me he will forever hold a special place in my heart. He will always be remembered for providing me with one of the best performances ever on the big screen. As for his legacy when it comes to comic book films, well it speaks for itself. When the casting of Heath Ledger was announced it wasn’t well received by Hollywood. However Heath with his performance set the bar so high that some may argue he has eclipsed what the likes of Mark Hamill and Jack Nicholson brought to the character. Anyone who steps into the big shoes of The Joker in the future as we saw with Jared Leto will always be compared to with Heath Ledger. While some look to make correlations between Heath taking this iconic role and his untimely death. I like to remember Heath Ledger for what he left us with which is not only a single performance but a whole career that will be talked about for a number of decades.

Let me know what you think of Heath Ledger’s legacy 10 years later

What’s your favourite Joker scene/moment from The Dark Knight?

When it comes to comic book films will we ever see a better performance from a main villain?

Road to Avengers Infinity War: Iron Man (2008) Review

Between now and the release of Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War in May I will be attempting to review the majority of the MCU films that will lead up to this land mark film. I originally planned to review every single MCU however I don’t have enough time to as I am currently in my third year of university which unfortunately occupies a lot of my spare time right now. So I decided I would review the major films of the MCU not necessarily each one. But I felt like it was only right to begin with the film that started it all. Iron Man released way back in 2008, who knew how important this film would be and where it would lead us to today. Part of me actually wanted to review this film for personal reasons, honestly I’m not really the biggest fan of Iron Man as a character. I’m more of a Captain America guy. Prior to watching this film last night I believe I’ve only watched this film like twice. Every time I see Iron Man in someone’s top 5 list I say in my head “Was that film really that good?” Not that I thought it was bad it’s just that I didn’t really remember anything from it. Well it’s safe to say after watching it last night for the first time in years I totally understand why people hold this film in such high regard, It’s so great!

maxresdefault

What makes this film so great? Robert Downey Jr! Having watched all of his MCU performances I believe this one is his best, he makes it look so easy. You believe that he’s actually tony stark in real life. It’s funny to see how the character of Tony Stark hasn’t changed at all since this film. He’s still that snarky, self-confident, arrogant billionaire that we see in the recent MCU movies. Robert Downey Jr. does a great job at portraying the Tony who care about nothing but himself, to the more emotional Tony as we see after he escapes from the cave and he realises that he was saved for a reason. He sees what his weapons are doing in the Middle East in the hands of the wrong people and chooses to shut down his Stark manufacturing programme and hunt these people down. I also really like Tony’s relationship with Pepper Potts in this film which also brings the emotional side out of Tony, she almost acts like an anchor that constantly pulls Tony back to reality.

As for the story of this film I really found it compelling and a strong aspect of the film. Given the time of its release the issues brought up in this film were very relevant at the time and even today with the subject of war and terrorism. Although Tony is seen as a  hero to many with his manufacturing of war weapons he is also seen as a war criminal. What happens when the weapons you built get into the hands of the enemy and is used to kill innocents and your own people? This movie tackles this issue brilliantly. The scenes set in the cave after the explosion which lodges shrapnel into Tony’s chest are some of my favourite scenes. You get to see how much of a genius tony really is in creating this early suit who is stripped down to nothing. The creation of the first suit provides for some great action scenes that are spread throughout the movie, for example with the breakout from the cave. Let me just say for a film that was released 10 years ago these visual effects hold up really well they’re great!

Now I’m not going to go into every single detail of the film but I would like to share my favourite scenes with you guys. The first being when Tony takes the Mark II suit on it’s first flight test, I love this scene! It looked, sounded and was acted out perfectly. This flight scene almost encapsulates what Tony is all about. In his first flight he straightaway wants to push the suit to the limit by going above 85,000 feet. You get to see the joy an relief on his face when he is able to save himself from the suit freezing over. Again this scene is accompanied by great visual effects. The second scene that stood out to me is where he introduces himself to the military by accident… well kind of. I love how Tony is just having an on going conversation with James Rhodes while his life is in danger. It just shows the strength of Robert Downey Jr. as an actor being someone that can pull this off and making it seem believable.

As for the main villain Obadiah well… he was average at best, you saw it coming a mile off that he was going to betray Tony and he was behind it all. I mean he wasn’t terrible but there’s a reason why people don’t mention him at all when it comes to the best comic book villains ever. What he did provide for was another favourite scene of mine which is where Obadiah extracts the arc reactor from Tony’s chest, it was just brutal to watch. That one scene kind of encapsulates what I love most about this film in how they dealt with the tone. There was a good mix of both light and dark moments which I feel has been a real struggle for recent MCU films.

Overall I really enjoyed revisiting this movie and I have to admit I didn’t realise how great this movie really is. This may have sneaked into my top 5 comic book films ever. I think I’m turning into a huge Iron Man fan now, I can’t wait to re-watch the sequels which from what I remember aren’t the best but Robert Downey Jr has me exited to revisit them.

Let me know what you think of Iron Man? Does it rank high amongst your top comic book films?

Justice League Home Release To Come With ‘Bonus Scenes’

Warner Bros. Justice League is set to be released on Blu-ray March 13th while the Digital HD release will arrive earlier on February 13th. Warner Bros. announced this news with a new mini trailer promoting the Blu-ray release date. What’s interesting to note from the trailer is that the Blu-ray is set to be released with ‘Bonus Scenes’ yes plural! By the end of the trailer we are teased with a bonus Superman scene. It’s hard to tell what is going on in this scene but speculation has led to fans thinking this is where Superman gets his suit back after his resurrection. That would make sense because that part was skipped over in the theatrical cut. No one really knows how he got his suit back, hopefully this will provide some answers. I will also be interested to see what other bonus scenes they will also include. Personally I would love to see more scenes with Aquaman in Atlantis which we didn’t get enough of in the theatrical cut. As of right now the studio hasn’t hinted at all of a ‘directors cut’ or ‘Zack Snyder cut’ being released in the near future.

Why you should watch ‘The Gifted’

Last month I put out a tweet asking if I should watch The Gifted. What I find hard is catching up with with all the current comic book TV shows. It feels like a new show or season is starting every week. Surprisingly the tweet received a lot of positive feedback mainly in favour for me to start watching the show. I was told by many that if I loved the X-Men then I would enjoy The Gifted. So I gave the first episode a chance which is what I do with most TV shows that I’m trying to get into. It’s all about whether the first episode can keep my interest enough to invest my time in a series as a whole. Well before I knew it after watching the first episode of The Gifted I had caught up with the series in the space of a couple of days.

What I loved most about this series is how it gave me such an old school X-Men vibe from the animated series that I watched as a kid. Without going into major spoilers the main story of the series is that the X-Men are no longer around but what they left behind is an underground organisation to act as a refuge for mutants who are being hunted down by the sentinels. One family comes to find out that the children themselves are mutants and find themselves on the run from authorities eventually joining the mutant underground. This provides for a lot of conflict and companionship that is dealt with well throughout this series with how the outsiders are now looking at the mutants to be accepted. Once at the mutant underground this is where the show is at its strength because we are introduced to characters such as Polaris and Marcus who quickly became my favourites. As a whole it’s interesting to see how the mutant underground operates and helps other mutants. At the same time the mutants have to make sure that they are one step ahead of the sentinels who are tracking them down in a continuous cat and mouse game.

One reason why I have always liked the the X-Men in both comics and movies is because they mirror social issues that go on today such as racism and immigration. The Gifted also touches on these subjects and does a good job at creating a world where mutants just want to be accepted for who they are. The writers do a good job at allowing you to see both sides of the argument because although you may not agree with the other side it’s interesting to see their thought process and where their issues with the mutants lie. One aspect I would also like to address is the CGI in this TV show. CGI is crucial to this TV show as it’s needed to showcase the mutants powers and with a TV budget in my opinion the CGI is great. With some shows you can tell that they are working on a small budget but that’s not the case here.

The best thing about this series is you don’t really have to be a X-Men at all to enjoy it, you can come into the series with no prior knowledge at all. Granted there are a lot of callbacks and easter eggs to the original X-Men characters. One of my favourite easter eggs is one of the characters ringtone being the theme song from the X-Men animated series.

With the first season being wrapped up just a couple of days ago I cannot wait to see where they go next with this series in future seasons. If I still haven’t convinced you to watch The Gifted just give the first episode a try, what’s the worst that could happen?

Let me know what you think of the series if you have watched it

John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein In Talks to Direct The Flash Movie

According to Variety John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein are in talks with Warner Bros. to direct the solo Flash movie starring Ezra Miller. Given the pairs background in film it looks to be a reasonable choice as they were the script writers for one of the most successful movies of last year Spider-Man: Homecoming. The studio are hoping that they will bring some of what they brought to the Spider-Man film to the Flash as they ‘eye a comedic tone for the film’. It’s also interesting to note that the studio also approached Ben Affleck to direct the Flash movie who actually turned it down. As someone who loved Argo and The Town which Affleck directed, It would’ve been interesting to see what he would have brought to the Flash.

Either way as a huge fan of the Flash it’s great to see that this film is being pushed into production by the studio. After seeing numerous directors leave the film I was worried for the future of the project but they look to be going in the right direction now and rightly so! Ezra Miller’s portrayal of the Flash and Barry Allen in Justice League became a fan favourite for many. Personally I can’t wait to see Ezra Miller as the Flash starring in his own movie because in a short time he has already shown what he can bring to the role.

The Dark Knight to Return in Theatres for 10 Year Anniversary

July 2018 will mark 10 years since Christopher Nolan’s iconic Dark Knight film was released on the big screens. Since its release the Dark Knight has been acknowledged by most fans around the world as one of the greatest comic book movies ever. I would argue that its one of the best movies ever regardless of film genres. With the 10 year anniversary coming up it looks like Warner Bros. and certain movie theatres have something special planned for fans who love the movie.

According to Comicbook.com:

The Dark Knight is celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2018. Fans in the northeast United States can celebrate in theaters.

Theatre chain Showcase Cinemas will screen The Dark Knight on February 8th and 11th.

(via. Comicbook.com)

As someone who lives in the UK I am extremely of those who will get to experience the film again in the theatres. Although I own the film on Blu-Ray and watched it at least like 10 times I would love to go watch it at my local cinema along with others who appreciate the greatness of the film.

What do you make of this news? Would you buy a ticket to watch the Dark Knight again?

My Top 5 Most Anticipated Comic Book Movies of 2018

Last year was a great year for comic book fans like myself as we were treated to a number of great films. You had films such as Wonder Woman and Logan which were praised by critics all around the world and have a great chance of picking up some awards this year. Spider-Man made his first solo entry into the MCU which was well received too and Thor: Ragnarok was one my favourite films of the year. While 2017 was a great year for comic book movies 2018 looks set to be one of the strongest years for the film genre. So I figured I’d give you an insight into my top 5 most anticipated comic book films to come out this year. One thing to note is that I left out Avengers: Infinity War from my list on purpose because it’s an obvious choice for me and fans around the world. Also I wanted to make my list a little bit different compared to the hundreds of lists you may have already read.

With that being said lets get straight into my top 5 most anticipated comic book fans of this 2018:

5. Venom (5th October 2018)

tom hard

I still can’t believe we are getting a Venom film starring Tom Hardy. You have to applaud Sony here for doing something different and taking a risk. They see the success that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is having in the MCU and what their response? To make an R-Rated Venom film starring Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock. While the first look at Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock was revealed earlier this week and wasn’t the huge reveal as fans expected it to be. What it did make me anticipate even more is the reveal for the Venom suit which you have to think we will get a glimpse of it in the next couple of months. While Tom Hardy is the main draw for me with this film the cast surrounding him isn’t too bad either. Tom Hardy is set to be joined by Michelle Williams and Riz Ahmed, it has also be rumoured that Woody Harrelson may join the project too. I’m not sure why I’m so interested in this film. Maybe there’s a huge part of me that is still disappointed with Venom’s portrayal in Spider-Man 3 and this is a chance to finally do the character justice.

4. Batman Ninja (TBA: 2018)

Screen Shot 2017-12-02 at 02.17.00

I had no idea that this project existed until a couple of months ago when the trailer dropped and it’s fair to say that the trailer blew me away. Set to be released by the end of this year Batman Ninja is set in a middle ages of Japan and once again it will feature Batman going up against The Joker. However this is a Batman that no longer has his gadgets and is stripped down to his core. It will be interesting to see how Batman has to channel his inner abilities to overcome this new challenge. A lot of the trailer includes shots of Batman training in the mountains which really reminded me of Batman Begins. Other than the Batman and The Joker various other characters from the Batman universe are set to appear in this film such as Nightwing, Deadshot, Harley Quinn, Catwoman and many more. We’ve seen Batman go up against The Joker a million of times but this time Batman Ninja brings brings a breathe of fresh air to the never ending feud.

3. Deadpool 2 (1st June 2018)

Pool 2

The ‘Merc with a Mouth’ is back again with the second Deadpool movie coming in the summer. While returning with fan favourite characters such as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Weasel and Colossus. Deadpool 2 will also be bringing in newcomers who are also fan favourites from the comics such as Cable and Domino. With Tim Miller leaving the film in its early stages after filming the first film you have to give credit to everyone involved here because this didn’t became a huge hinderance to the project as some expected it to be. The studio moved on quickly by bringing on David Leitch as the new director and look where we are today. The release date of Deadpool 2 has actually been pushed up by 2 weeks which clearly shows the confidence the studio has with this film. As for what to expect from the film who knows? That’s part of the charm with Deadpool and especially Ryan Reynolds who is so passionate about the character. All I know is Deadpool 2 will be a great film consisting of great action scenes and endless amounts of humour.

2. Black Panther (February 12th 2018)

BP

I’ve been looking forward to this film for a long time! Even before Captain America: Civil War came out. With every cast announcement they made with this film it kept drawing me in. Now with the full star studded cast it’s impossible not to look forward to this film. The stand out for me is Michael B. Jordan who is one of my favourite actors after watching his performance in the likes of Creed. Im really anticipating his role as the main villain this time which I think he has it in him to be one of the strongest MCU villains in a long time. The trailers have been great at showing us just what Wanakda is about and its importance in the world. I’m also interested in seeing how this film links in with the rest of the MCU universe. Everything is pointing to the soul stone being located in Wakanda which won’t only be important for this film but for Avengers: Infinity War which is set to be released in May.

As for the story Black Panther looks to be a political thriller with T’Challa taking over the throne since his father’s death in Captain America: Civil War. Being a new king T’Challa will definitely face opposition with people such as Killmonger trying to challenge him for the throne. Also it’s impossible to ignore the importance of this film in today’s society with a person of colour having their own superhero movie. Granted we’ve had films such as Blade but this is different. I have friends who aren’t even comic book fans that are going to watch this film. Currently this film is set to break records as it has already sold more tickets than any other MCU film.

To be honest Black Panther may have been number 1 on this list for me but it’s January already, we are only one month away from its release!

1. Aquaman (21st December 2018)

JAsson

Now its no secret that the DCEU is in some trouble after last years Justice League which was a disappointment not only to a lot of fans but most importantly at the Box Office. However just like the Wonder Woman film Aquaman has the chance to just be itself. This film doesn’t have to focus too much on universe building and linking it in with the rest of the films from the DCEU. This is a chance to just get Aquaman’s story out there first. From Justice League I really liked what we got from Jason Momoa’s portrayal as Arthur Curry and while the scenes in Atlantis were too short for me I can’t wait to spend a whole film there. That brings me to the director of the film James Wan who I feel is the perfect choice for this project as he has a rich history in making great horror films which is what Aquaman should consist of. Also I love the choice of Black Manta as the main villain for the film. As someone that is a huge fan of the Aquaman New 52 series I can’t wait to see them battle it out on the big screen and see James Wan’s take on Atlantis.

There you have it that my list!

Let me know what you think of my list down below and also what comic book films are you most anticipating of this year?

‘Deadpool 2’ set for early release while ‘New Mutants’ and ‘Gambit are pushed back

Fox has made some major adjustment to their movie slate from 2018-2019 by changing the dates of 3 projects which are Deadpool 2, New Mutants and Gambit. Originally set for a June 1 date Ryan Reynold’s Deadpool 2 has been pushed up by two weeks with a new release date of May 18. However it’s not as good news for the fans of the New Mutants which was originally set to be released on April 13 this year has now been pushed back by 10 months! The new release date for the New Mutants is now set at February 22 (2019). Now that leaves us with the Gambit movie that just can’t seem to get going. As if it wasn’t bad enough for fans who were looking forward to this film who earlier found out that director Gore Verbinski has left the project. Now the Gambit film with original release date of February 14 has moved back to (June 7 2019). One has to think that the Gambit film is now in serious danger of being scrapped altogether.

May is set to be a huge month for film fans around the world as we will get Avengers: Infinity War (May 4) Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25) and of course Deadpool 2 (May 18)
