Avengers: Infinity War Second Trailer Set To Be Released Tomorrow!

We are just one month away from one of the biggest comic book movies ever. It feels like forever since we got that first trailer for Infinity War back in November last year. Now we are finally getting the second trailer tomorrow! The Russo Brothers did hint that the trailer would be coming sometime this week on Twitter with themselves asking for the trailer. Well it looks like we don’t have to wait much longer now as the Marvel Studios Twitter account posted a video with the tagline ‘Tomorrow’.

As for what I hope to see from the trailer I honestly don’t know. I loved the first trailer so much I don’t know how they’ll top that but I trust them. I’ll be fine with just one trailer if it were up to me because I’m that hyped for the trailer.

Here’s a list of what I want to see from this upcoming trailer:

  1. Reference to where the soul stone maybe located
  2. More interactions with characters we haven’t seen before
  3. More scenes in Wakanda
  4. Focus a little more on Thanos, especially the Children of Thanos
  5.  Are there anymore locations in this which we haven’t explored yet?
  6. Shots of characters we haven’t seen yet (Hulk not Banner, Hawkeye, Ant-Man)

That’s all I have for my expectations… Not a lot I know mainly because of that first trailer but I trust Marvel will hit it out the park again with this trailer.

Let me know your expectations for the trailer tomorrow

Be sure to come back here tomorrow as I will have a full breakdown/review of the trailer.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan On Wanting To Play Batman In Flashpoint

Ever since the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice fans have been speculating about the role of Thomas Wayne in the future of the DC extended universe. Originally played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan it would be a no brainer that if the character was to ever return it would be him that would play the role of Thomas Wayne again. While Thomas Wayne died in Dawn of Justice (obviously) the future for the character certainly isn’t dead. A huge reason for this is because DC’s future Flash movie was revealed to be called ‘Flashpoint’. Now of course with the name ‘Flashpoint’ titled after one of the most popular graphic novels ever some would expect the film to follow along the same lines of the comic. With Flashpoint the timeline is messed up by Barry Allen who attempts to go back in time and prevent the murder of his Mother. Not knowing the ramifications of these actions on the rest of the universe. One of the biggest changes that see is that instead of Thomas Wayne dying in the alleyway is its Bruce who doesn’t survive. This results in Thomas Wayne taking up the role of the iconic hero. However, unlike the Bruce Wayne/Batman we’ve come to love in previous iterations, this Thomas Wayne is a broken man. Still hurt by Bruce’s death he’s enraged and resorts to alcohol to numb his pain. Now I won’t giveaway the whole story for those haven’t read it yet. But I would highly recommend reading it as it provides a take on Batman we’ve never seen before.

So with a theatrical Flash film titled ‘Flashpoint’ would this film follow in the same footsteps? There is one person who hopes it does and that’s Thomas Wayne himself, Jeffrey Dean Morgan who in a recent interview with TotalFilm stated:

“And what I know about the Flashpoint Batman is, you know, for me, I think he is not only the darkest of the Batmen, but the coolest. And I love his whole storyline and who he is and the tortured soul of it all.”

As for actually wanting to play Batman on the big screen he stated:

We’ll see. I mean, look, DC is DC and they’ll figure out what they’re going to do next. But I’m highly aware of the character, I will say that. I’m highly aware of the character, and it would probably be a thrill of a lifetime to put on the Batsuit.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan actually goes on to say him and Zack Snyder have actually talked about the role in the past:

“Look, I’m not going to lie. Zack Snyder and I talked about doing Batman together when we did Watchmen. I think it was both he and I’s favorite character and favorite story.

While I love what I’ve seen from Jeffrey Dean Morgan in the likes of Watchmen and The Walking Dead, I don’t want a Flashpoint movie yet. The idea is great don’t great me wrong, plus I think he would make a great Thomas Wayne/Batman. Looking t the DC universe as a whole this movie is way too soon especially for the character of The Flash. If they’re going with the Flashpoint storyline this film is going to inflict some major changed in the DC universe. There have been constant rumours that the studio will use this film to recast Ben Affleck’s Batman which is a ridiculous is you as me. It shouldn’t take one of your biggest storylines in comics to do it.

That’s just my 2 cents on the whole situation, it’s nice to see how passionate Jeffrey Dean Morgan is about the potential role. I know from experience too a couple of months ago I posted some fan art of him as Batman on Twitter and he liked it.

Let me know what you think down below

Do you think he would make a good Batman?

Is it too soon for a Flashpoint movie?

Comic Book News ‘Weekly Roundup’ (Week 2)

Welcome to the second week of this ‘Weekly Roundup’ series. There has been a wide range of news/stories that came out last week and mainly a lot of rumours. However I picked the ones that are both official and the ones that I felt were most interesting to talk about. Today we will be looking at Wonder Woman 2 casting news, more Shazam leaks, Black Panther’s Box Office numbers, X-Men: Dark Phoenix and The Joker movie.

So let’s get started with the first story!

Wonder Woman Casting Announcement (Cheetah)

650_1200

It was reported last week that Warner Bros. were in talks with Kristen Wiig to star as Cheetah in the Wonder Woman sequel. While there are rumours surrounding the DC extended universe everyday this story just felt different to me. Maybe it was because of the outlets that were reporting the news such as TheWrap that made it feel like there was something to this than just rumours. Well last week Patty Jenkins confirmed these rumours to be true as she welcomed Kristen Wiig to the Wonder Woman franchise with a tweet. Gal Gadot soon followed with her own welcoming message to Kristen Wiig on Twitter. Spending a lot of time on social media I’m still seeing a very mixed response to this news just like when the rumours first appeared. I for one have learned especially with the DCEU not to judge casting announcements until the film comes out because thankfully I have been proven wrong a few times.

Wonder Woman 2 is set to be released November 1 2019 and is expected to start shooting this summer.

Black Panther crosses $1 Billion at Box Office

7791791421_chadwick-boseman-incarne-black-panther-au-cinema

One of Marvel’s most successful movies ever… Wait one of the most successful movies ever! Honestly I didn’t think this film was going to be as big as it is now I’ll admit that. I’ve lost count of the number of records it has already broken having been out only for a month. Well the film’s latest biggest achievement came just a couple of days ago when it reach $1 Billion at the WorldWide Box Office. That’s insane for a comic book movie! Honestly at best I was thinking it would be around the $800 Million mark but this has blown my expectations out of the water. And it’s fully deserved I loved this film I think it’s a win for the comic book movie genre in general. It’ll be interesting to see how Infinity War’s numbers will compare to Black Panther’s which is only a couple of months away.

Joker Movie To Follow The Killing Joke Plot

batman-killing-joke-movie-release-date

Now this is a movie that when I first heard about it I thought was a long shot. At best I didn’t expect to hear anything about this film for a number of years. However this film seems to be a priority for Warner Bros. It was earlier last year when reports started to surface about a script being written and plans to start production late 2018. Then we heard that this Joker film would be an origin story but without Jared Leto’s Joker. The studio were reportedly looking at Joaquin Phoenix to play the iconic role. Well just last week we got even more developments as the plot details about the project emerged. It’s believed that this Joker origin movie will be heavily influenced by Alan Moore’s ‘The Killing Joke‘ with a Joker who was a failed stand up comedian. Honestly I’m not sure what to make of this… I mean the more DC films the better right? But I just feel like they could be putting their efforts into a character that really needs it. I’d love to see another Superman film, Cyborg film even a Deathstroke movie. I’d rather hear about developments on those films. However what I took from this whole story is that Warner Bros. with this film are attempting to create a separate DC universe where standalone films such as this will exist. Now I think that’s a great idea I love the thought of putting out these DC storylines in film which require no build up or universe building at all. If this goes well this could be the start of something great for DC.

More Shazam set photos leak
Shazam-newlook-header-678x381

Last week set photos from the upcoming Shazam movie leaked and the internet as it usually does went crazy. Some loved it and some just outright hated it. I’ll be honest I didn’t like what I saw but I knew this was a bad picture in general. Shazam is a character where the costume in live action is going to require a lot of VFX because of his powers and you’re just not going to see that until we get the final product. Thankfully with these newly leaked images which I must say are with a MUCH better angle I really like the suit. My biggest worry from the original suit was it looked like the material was cheap. However with these recent images the material for the suit looks good and the suit is heavily detailed which is another worry I had. Overall I’m seeing a lot more positive reactions to these latest images. Also leaked from the set were images of Zachary Levi’s Shazam going up against the main villain Doctor Sivana played by Mark Strong which provide for an interesting look.

First look at X-Men: Dark Phoenix costumes

Screen Shot 2018-03-12 at 22.50.50.png

Just like with Shazam another movie that is currently shooting is X-Men: Dark Phoenix also experienced leaks of a set image. Granted there aren’t as many set photos that leaked it’s only one really and it’s not the best quality so I’ll keep this short. In this set photo you see the cast standing around not doing much. But what got fans talking about this set photo is that we get a glimpse of their costumes for the film. The look of the costume resembles Frank Quietly’s work on the New X-Men series with the blue uniforms that have the Yellow X on them. While writing this a report also came out earlier claiming that this X-Men film will be more of a drama than a Superhero film. I personally feel that this has been the case for the majority of X-Men films and I can’t wait for this film especially after the disappointment of X-Men: The Last Stand. I’d also like to add that this film is reportedly going to be scored by Hans Zimmer too, without a doubt one of my favourite film composers ever. An X-Men: Dark Phoenix described as a drama scored by Hans Zimmer is music to my ears.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix is set to be released on November 2 later this year

There you have it for this week!

Let me know your thoughts on the stories I covered and any feedback is welcome

See you next week!

Comic Book News ‘Weekly Roundup’ (Week 1)

Welcome to a new series that I will be doing here weekly on my site. The purpose of the ‘Weekly roundup’ is pretty simple, I will take the news and rumours from the week surrounding the comic book industry (movies in particular) and give my thoughts and opinions on them. This will allow me to cover more stories and give me a chance to write about both DC and Marvel as there seems to be new stories and rumours everyday. With that being said in this week’s edition I will be covering news such as Fox Studios future plans, Avengers: Infinity War, Wonder Woman 2, Batgirl and Shazam.

Fox Studios planning more X-Men movies

x-men-f4-deadpool-fox-disney

A couple of months ago when the deal with Disney and Fox was announced many comic book fans feared the worst. What would happen to the Fox movies? After X-Men: Dark Phoenix will they stop producing comic book movies? Well it looks like the deal hasn’t impacted futures plans at all for the studio as they plan to release 3 X-Men movies in 2019 and another 3 in 2020. Amongst these could possibly be solo films for both The Silver Surfer and Dr. Doom which were confirmed this week to be in production. Overall this is very encouraging news for all comic book fans because it means we have more studios producing these films not just two. Fox studios this year will release Deadpool 2 and X-Men: Dark Phoenix.

Infinity War Date Pushed up

Screen Shot 2017-11-29 at 19.58.40

Staying with Marvel they just decided to push up the date for their biggest movie to date. Yes Avenger: Infinity War will now be released a week earlier on April 27 worldwide. It’s the way they announced this new date which made everyone stop and admire the way Marvel runs its organisation. Here’s a recap of how the new release date was announced with a conversation between Robert Downey Jr. and the Marvel Studios on Twitter:

Personally I think it’s great that everyone gets to experience this huge film at the same time around the world. However does this mean that some characters will actually die in Infinity War? And they chose to push up the release date in hopes to stop spoilers from coming out by those would have got to seen it earlier in Europe like myself.

What’s going on with Batgirl?

batgirl-joss-whedon

The Batgirl project is one that has been surrounded by a lot of controversy ever since it was announced that Joss Whedon would be directing it. Personal stories that were made public about Whedon’s relationships made fans think that he wasn’t the right choice for this project in the first place. Now fast forward to after Justice League where he was brought in to do the majority of the reshoots which really rubbed fans the wrong way. Some felt he was brought in to change the film into a more Marvel like film under the studios instructions and he got a lot of the blame for Justice League. This really created a negative feeling around the Batgirl project in general, people just didn’t want to see him direct this film. However some fans actually got their wish as it was reported last week that Whedon had left the project after he ‘failed’ to come up with a story for Batgirl. Now it looks like Batgirl is back to square one with reports stating that the studio “has no imminent plans to find a new director”. Personally I felt it was a good decision for Joss Whedon to step down from the project. As a huge DC fan who spends a lot of time on Twitter, there was this negativity that surrounded the project because Whedon’s name was attached to it. The feeling around Batgirl would have only gotten worse as time went on if he was in charge.

Shazam First look (kinda)

Zachary-Levi-Shazam-Set-Photo

A couple of days ago the internet was sent into a frenzy when a picture of Zachary Levi in the Shazam costume leaked online from the film set. Now granted it’s not an official reveal of course, but that didn’t stop fans from either loving or hating what they saw. I personally love the look of the costume which resembles the New 52 Shazam with the cape and the hood. My only issue is that the materials used for the suit makes it look cheap, I was hoping for a more skin tight suit. I honestly thought the picture was a fake when I first saw it on my timeline. However I have faith in David F. Sandberg and the VFX team that they will do their best to make the suit look great when we finally get a official reveal from the studio.

Wonder Woman 2 developments

wonder-woman-2-villain-cheetah-kristen-wiig

With the success of the first Wonder Woman movie fans like myself can’t wait to see what Patty Jenkins has to offer with the sequel. Well this week we learned two things about the movie which is set to be released in 2019. The first being that the film will start production this summer in London which is great news. The second being that Cheetah is rumoured to be the main villain of the film. Along with that it was reported that Kristen Wiig is in talks with the studio to play the role. This news actually created some controversy amongst fans given her previous work. I for one have learned not to question casting decisions anymore I find them exciting actually especially when people are proved wrong. Lets hope the same happens if Kristen Wiig is actually set to play the role which we should get some official confirmation in the upcoming months. It was also rumoured that Steve Trevor’s character would also return in Wonder Woman 2. However that seems to have cooled down for now It’ll be interesting to see if there are any developments on this in the future.

That’s it for the first week of this ‘Weekly Roundup’ series, let my know your thoughts on the stories I covered above.

Also feel free to give me any feedback positive or negative I don’t mind.

See you next week!

Avengers: Infinity War Release Date Gets Pushed Up!

One of the biggest comic book movies ever has not got a new release date. Initially set to be released on May 4th in North America Avengers: Infinity War will now be released a week earlier on April 27th worldwide! This was done to match up with the release dates of the European markets which is a smart decision in my opinion, especially great for trying fans to avoid spoilers because people like me were going to see it a week earlier (not that I would spoil it though). Like Marvel does they have their own way of doing things and they announced this new release date publicly in a twitter conversation between Robert Downey Jr. and the Marvel Studios Twitter account. RDJ asked “Any chance I could see it earlier?”.

Here was their response:

Just like that they announced a new release date for their biggest movie ever! While I loved seeing Marvel films early because I live in the UK I love this news. Honestly it was hard for me not to talk about films that released a week earlier without going into spoilers.

Let me know you think of this news down below

Black Panther Review (non-spoilers)

Finally it’s here! I feel like I’ve been waiting for this movie for decades. I can’t remember being this exited for a solo Superhero movie in a long time. While I was already looking forward to this film before seeing the King of Wakanda on the big screen for the first time in Captain America: Civil War. I was already anticipating his solo film mainly for one reason… Ryan Coogler. Long story short but one day I decided to watch a film on Netflix called ‘Creed’ (directed by Ryan Coogler) not knowing what the hell to expect and I loved it! When I heard Coogler would be in charge of Black Panther and the fact that he was also bringing Michael B. Jordan with him (one of my favourite actors) I couldn’t be more hyped for this film. Well I think I’m talking too much here I’m guessing what you guys want to know is did it live up to the hype? In every way possible yes it did! I’m not overreacting when I say this is one of the best comic book movies ever.

black-panther-trailer

Everything about Wakanda is beautiful in this film with how its depicted from the way it looks and how it feels. Ryan Coogler does a great job at really immersing the viewer into the world of Wakanda. If you have never picked up a Black Panther comic you maybe worried about being lost in this world. Well I came into this film almost as a beginner to the country of Wakanda and I left feeling like an expert who knew everything to do with Wakanda but still knowing that we had only scratched the surface with this film. I have to give huge credit to the writers Ryan Coogler and Joe Robert Cole for guiding me through this beautiful fictional country. I just love the way Wakanda is depicted in this film, its scary how far ahead they are compared to the rest of the world in the MCU. I found this really refreshing to see because we all know that Africa isn’t just what they show us in the news and media. Its not this continent that is full of countries that are poor and lack development. Here you have a blockbuster film celebrating african culture and tradition while showing us its just as wealthy and advanced as other continents around the world.

As for the story without going into major plot details I really enjoyed it and I found myself more invested in it compared to previous MCU instalments. After the events of Captain America: Civil War T’Challa is left to take over the throne from his father which isn’t as easy as it sounds. We get to witness him become the protector of Wakanda but that doesn’t come without its challenges. There’s this underlying theme throughout the movie with Wakanda being so advanced and wealthy should they come out of hiding to help people who are suffering around the world. I won’t spoil it for you but I love the way the film handles this issue with the ending. I must say the ending of this film is beautiful, just the message behind it. It comes off as so inspirational and I just had a huge smile on my face when I was walking out of the theatre.

7791791421_chadwick-boseman-incarne-black-panther-au-cinema

Before watching Black Panther I knew one of the strongest aspects of the film would be the acting because of the star studded cast that came with the film. Honestly I could be here for a long time just talking about how great each performance is but i’ll pick out a few that stood out to me. First with the star of the show Chadwick Boseman who plays King ‘T’Challa’. I thought Boseman was great in this role, he really gives you a sense of what it’s like to go from a Prince to a King with all the highs and lows that come with that transition. Boseman does well at playing multiple T’Challa’s in this film. Let me explain… You have of course the T’Challa ‘the King’, the hardened diplomatic leader who tries his best for his people as we see in scenes where he is talking with the other tribal leaders in the council meetings. Then you have the T’Challa who when has the Black Panther suit on gives off this almost over-confident persona, in a good way. This is the T’Challa who is very confident in his own abilities and sometimes feels like he can complete the mission by himself. Then of course you have the family man T’Challa, the more emotional and heartfelt one. You see this in scenes when he is interacting with his mother, love interest and younger sister. Chadwick Boseman really showcases a wide range of abilities while performing this role proving any doubters wrong that he was a great choice for this iconic character.

Killmonger-Black-Panther-villain

Now to address one of the main issues that the MCU has faced for a number of years which is not having strongest main villains in their films. I tend to agree with that argument because apart from Loki and The Winter Soldier I find it hard to really care for the main villain in the MCU so far. Well its safe to say that has now changed for me with Michael B. Jordan’s performance as ‘Killmonger’. Now I maybe biased because he is currently my favourite actor but I can’t praise him highly enough for his role in this film. It’s not only his performance here, the writing for his character is one of the strongest I’ve seen in a long time. Without going into spoilers ‘Killmonger’ has a really tragic background which fuels the motivations for his ultimate goal. One thing that makes a great villain in my opinion is that even if you don’t like them you can understand their motivations. Killmonger does at certain points come across as a sympathetic figure but its his ruthlessness that he shows when trying to take the throne that makes you hate him. Overall ‘Killmonger’ is a very interesting character, written well and Michael B. Jordan’s performance just tops it off.

1516889374black_panther

As much as I loved Michael B. Jordan’s performance he was not my favourite. Letitia Wright as ‘Shuri’ stole the show for me. Her character is compared to Tony Stark which is understandable but honestly she makes him look like an amateur. You really believe that she is the smartest person in the world. ‘Shuri’ might be the most crucial character in this film because without her mind and technology skill ‘T’Challa’ would definitely have his work cut out for him. I cannot praise Letitia Wright highly enough with her performance too. She looked like she was just having fun when shooting this film and every time she was on the screen she would get a reaction from the audience. I must add that the way women were portrayed in this film was great too. Nearly every female character was smart, strong and stood up to any man especially when it came to conflict.

With that being said this film is not perfect and there are some issues that I have with it that cannot be overlooked. With Ryan Coogler directing Creed I was looking forward to the action in this film and apart from the challenge scenes a lot of the action came across as generic and just ok like we’ve seen throughout the MCU. One glaring issue I had with the film was with the CGI. Granted the CGI in this film isn’t horrible but it isn’t great either. With the action scenes in particular where T’Challa is in the suit it looks too unrealistic almost taking me out of the film at certain points. One last thing I would like to add is for as much as I have praised the cast in this film its almost to the films detriment. I feel T’Challa really gets overshadowed by the characters around him, they just felt more interesting to me than the star of the show. But that maybe a good thing overall because Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa is a strong character who is surrounded by numerous strong characters too.

Look I could talk about this movie all day and I can’t wait to get into the spoilers later in the week. I love this movie, in a time where some people complain about Marvel’s cookie cutter formula this breaks the trend for me. This is a comic book film that touches on aspects such as politics, race and helping each other. I cannot recommend Black Panther highly enough. As for where I rank this film MCU… Its definitely top 2. Right now it’s a tie between this and Winter Soldier for the number 1 spot. I may have to watch it again before putting it over Winter Soldier. For the future my only worry for the next Black Panther film is that they have set the bar so high how do they top this? However with Ryan Coogler at the helm this franchise can only get better.

SCORE: 9/10

Have you seen Black Panther yet? If so let me know what you thought of the film below

Rumour: Henry Cavill’s Superman To Appear in Shazam?

According to ‘Revenge of The Fans’ the next time we will get to see Henry Cavill’s Superman on the big screen is in DC’s upcoming Shazam film. Shazam is set to be released next April and is directed by David Sandberg. Granted this isn’t the first time I’ve heard these rumours but ‘Revenge of The Fans’ have a good reputation and claim to have a trusted source for this scoop. As for what I think about Superman turning up in Shazam? I think it would be a really good idea. I’d like to see Superman play a mentor role to Billy Batson who will be a new inexperienced hero in Shazam. Superman is definitely someone that can show him the ropes of what it’s like to be a superhero. There is also a theory that one of the kids interviewing Superman at the beginning of Justice League is Billy Batson so they could tie that in if they wanted to.

My one worry with this idea is would Superman’s presence in this film be too much and take away from Shazam himself? If they do this it has to be done right. In my opinion the use of Iron Man in Spider-Man: Homecoming was too much and in general the film suffered because of this.

I put together a slideshow of a few comic pages from various series to show what Shazam and Superman’s relationship could look like on the big screen:

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

One last thing I would like to add is that Henry Cavill according to a lot of people has only one film left on his Warner Bros. contract (granted this has never been confirmed) .So could this be the last time we see his Superman on the big screen ever? I would love for them to give him another solo Superman film before recasting the role in my opinion. There seems to be a lot of rumours surrounding the studio rather than confirmations at the moment. Well what we know for certain is that Shazam is set to be released on April, 5 2019.

Let me know what you think about this rumour down below?

Do you want to see Superman show up in Shazam?

Remembering Heath Ledger 10 Years Later

10 years ago we lost Heath Ledger, not only did we lose one of the best main villains ever to grace the big screen but we also lost an amazing actor and person in general. I cannot believe how quickly time has flown. It feels like I was just watching him as The Joker in The Dark Knight a couple of months ago. Granted Heath Ledger had made his name way before stepping into the role of The Joker with his performances in films such as ‘Brokeback Mountain’, ’10 Things I Hate About You’ and ‘A Knight’s Tale’. However my first introduction to Heath Ledger was with his iconic performance as The Joker in ‘The Dark Knight’. Now when I first watched The Dark Knight I believe I was about 10 years old, way too young to watch the film at the time now that I think about it. All I remembered from The Dark Knight was how incredible The Joker was. What I loved the most about Heath’s performance when first watching it was I didn’t even care about the actor at the time all I saw was The Joker, I was so taken back by his performance.

Only after watching the film I came to find out that Heath had actually passed away before the film came even out. Correct me if i’m wrong but I don’t believe Heath actually got to see the final product of his work like we all did. I was heart broken to find this out given the amount of work he put into this role. Heath was in full creative control from the look, mannerisms and even the dialogue with The Joker. Reading a past interview from Christopher Nolan with the BBC he claimed that he learned a lot from the way Heath created this character and his performance in general. If that’s not one of the biggest compliments ever then I don’t know what is.

heath-joker-7591

Looking back on Heath’s performance in The Dark Knight it’s so hard for me to pick just one of his scenes as my favourite. If I were to use a word to describe his performance it would be ‘unpredictable’. You didn’t know what you were going to get next with The Joker. You certainly didn’t trust him and you had no idea of what he was planning. This is shown in scenes where Batman interrogates him for the first time, they should have just given him his Oscar for his performance in that scene alone. No where is the unpredictably of the Joker is shown in the scenes where he describes his origins. He changes it all the time especially about how he got his scars. The scene where he crashes the party is incredible, his performance to this day still has me on edge when he’s talking about putting a razor blade in his mouth providing with yet another story on how he got those scars.

Recently I also watched the new ‘I Am Heath Ledger’ documentary which I cannot recommend highly enough for anyone to watch. It really made me appreciate the person Heath Ledger a lot more. I saw him as someone who was more than just an actor. He lived his life as a free spirit, did what he wanted, put his family and friends first. As much as he loved acting he didn’t enjoy the limelight that came along with it. If you didn’t know Heath actually turned down the role of Peter Parker in the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies because of this. Anyone else would have probably taken that chance in a heartbeat, it really says a lot about him as a person.

maxresdefault (3)
Heath Ledger remains the only actor to receive an Oscar for a role in a comic book movie. (Best Supporting Actor, 2009)

Now 10 years later what is Heath Ledger’s legacy? Well for me he will forever hold a special place in my heart. He will always be remembered for providing me with one of the best performances ever on the big screen. As for his legacy when it comes to comic book films, well it speaks for itself. When the casting of Heath Ledger was announced it wasn’t well received by Hollywood. However Heath with his performance set the bar so high that some may argue he has eclipsed what the likes of Mark Hamill and Jack Nicholson brought to the character. Anyone who steps into the big shoes of The Joker in the future as we saw with Jared Leto will always be compared to with Heath Ledger. While some look to make correlations between Heath taking this iconic role and his untimely death. I like to remember Heath Ledger for what he left us with which is not only a single performance but a whole career that will be talked about for a number of decades.

Let me know what you think of Heath Ledger’s legacy 10 years later

What’s your favourite Joker scene/moment from The Dark Knight?

When it comes to comic book films will we ever see a better performance from a main villain?
