Avengers: Endgame Review (Spoilers)

Where the hell do I start with this review? I guess I’ll start with my initial thoughts after I saw Avengers: Endgame for the first time at a midnight screening on opening night. To be honest I wasn’t sure how to feel about the movie. Part of me left the theatres unsatisfied and borderline disappointed with what I got. As I started to play the movie over in my head again nothing changed. My feelings towards it got worse. But I felt like it was my duty to watch it again before I gave my entire thoughts. Maybe some things would change the second time round. Or maybe my initial thoughts would become solidified with that second viewing.

Honestly, viewing Avengers: Endgame a second time made all the difference for me. Just the personal viewing experience alone. I sat through that midnight screening tense and constantly on edge. My mind was going a million miles per hour with all the theories I had going into the movie. I can only speak for myself, but going in more relaxed with no pressure made me enjoy the movie a whole lot more. And even though I still have my issues with it. I found myself slowing falling in love with the movie. As I finished my second viewing I started asking myself “What the hell were you thinking when you tweeted out “the movie is just fine? Is this not everything you wanted from it?” And I hold my hands up. I’m happy to say that I couldn’t have been more wrong about Avengers: Endgame.

Given there is so much that goes on in this film it would be impossible for me to touch on every aspect. So, what I’m doing with this review is splitting it up in to three main sections which are dedicated to each act of the movie.

Act 1: Aftermath of the snap

Oddly enough, this is what I was looking forward to the most going into Endgame. We only caught a glimpse of how the Avengers reacted to the snap at the end of Avengers: Infinity War. But how would they feel/change once time had passed? For such a huge moment in the universe were they going to let the snap sit there and sink in? And boy did they. Seeing Tony like that after he returned to Earth was rough. I thought it was a great character moment. For someone that always has the answers it was heartbreaking to see him so defeated. Then I started to get concerned when the remaining Avengers went into space to kill Thanos. Although it was satisfying watching the Avengers show up to Thanos’ garden and straight up kill him I was so happy when I saw that ‘5 years later’ title appear shortly afterwards. I’ve seen a lot of people say the first act was too slow, but it was so important to me.

Seeing the Avengers lose AGAIN and hit rock bottom was needed for this movie to work. And I love how the snap impacted everyone differently. Tony gave up and focused on his family, Thor went into hiding, Cap was trying his hardest not to accept defeat and Black Widow was left to pick up the pieces with the rest of the Avengers. Oh, and Clint was in Tokyo being a straight badass. Then you have your everyday people. I really appreciated the scene of Scott Lang looking through the countless names at the memorial park. It just reinforced the impact of the snap for me. We have all witnessed this universe grow and expand over the past 20+ movies and throughout that opening act it just felt…empty.

Act 2: Quantum Realm

I remember Infinity War being described as a ‘heist movie’, but I felt that even more here with how the Quantum Realm was used to go back in time and collect the stones before Thanos. And even though I knew they were going to be revisiting major events in past movies I didn’t expect them to be interacting with previous versions of themselves. I thought it was a nice twist as it added to the already huge stakes. I loved this concept with Cap especially. As soon as he walked into that elevator I said “Oh, they’re about to do it aren’t they?!”. I didn’t get what I wanted, but the “Hail Hydra” line was a nice touch. However, for as much as I enjoyed the time travel aspect of the movie it did come with its issues. For me this is where the movie started to get muddy and kind of drag for me. It got to the point where it felt like they were trying to do too much. You start to jump from one timeline to another and one side plot to another with Thanos plotting in the background. On a second viewing it does start to make more sense, but I still felt overwhelmed by the end of the act. The whole time travel aspect has created some debate online since the release of the movie. So, I’m glad to see that I wasn’t the only who has issues with it.

Act 3: Assemble

With all of the stones collected and Hulk doing the snap it was all leading to this. What a third act! It did not disappoint at all. This might be my favourite final act of any comic book movie. Captain America, Iron Man and Thor teaming up against Thanos was enough for me. And you add in Cap using Mjolnir for the first time. Oh, I was more than content. Then they took it to the next level by introducing the “dead” characters. I was blown away by the shot of Captain America, Hulk, Black Widow and Black Panther running at the end of the Infinity War trailer. The Russos really just put that shot on steroids here. Seeing every single character in the MCU charging at Thanos and his army, I was just in awe the whole time. I just noticed I haven’t spoken about Thanos much in this review so far. It just shows how crucial the gauntlet was to him. Because throughout the movie he got his ass beat. I would’ve liked to have seen him put up a better fight. Maybe take out one of the Avengers during the final conflict. But that could’ve been too much now that I think about it, because we needed to sit with Tony’s death. Plus it was so satisfying watching Scarlet Witch nearly kill him all by herself. I came to the conclusion that Infinity War was Thanos’ movie and Endgame is the Avengers’ movie.

Goodbyes

This whole time I thought it was a given that Captain America would die in the final battle. I was so sure that Cap would die and Tony would eventually retire. I honestly didn’t think they had it in them to kill off the face of the franchise. And the way he went out was perfect too. Even when the snap happened and you see Tony laying there burnt up and barely conscious. I still didn’t think they were going to kill him. Knowing Tony I was just waiting for him to say a joke or something to break the tension. When Friday said his condition was “critical” it hit me like a ton of bricks. This is why I admire the first act so much. I loved seeing Tony as a father and for him give it all up to save everyone was beautiful. Also, Cap has questioned his selfishness since the first Avengers and for him to make the ultimate sacrifice was perfect for the character’s arc.

Now on to Captain America. If you didn’t know Captain America is my favourite MCU character. In terms of my all time favourite comic book characters he’s fourth on the list after Superman, Batman and Spider-Man. Once Tony died I thought was Cap going to stick around? Was he going to lead the next Avengers? Then I saw him preparing to go back into the Quantum Realm to put all the stones back. I knew he wasn’t coming back straight away. Again, like with Tony I thought Cap’s ending was beautiful too. He finally went and enjoyed his life for once. I know he’s a fictional character, but I was so happy for him in that moment. However, I didn’t see this movie as an ending for just Captain America and Iron Man. This was an ending for the Avengers as a whole. Or at least the original members. Tony’s dead, Cap’s retired, Black Widow’s dead and Thor gave ownership of Asgard to Valkyrie. I honestly have no complaints about any of these decisions. Nor would I change them if I had the chance. I just know then when we get that next Avengers movie way down the line, the line-up is going to look a whole lot different.

Closing thoughts

There you have it! This might be my longest review ever. If any movie deserved this much of my time it was probably Avengers: Endgame. I just had so many thoughts running through my head especially after the first viewing. Thankfully, I went for another viewing because I found myself appreciating the movie a lot more. Do I put it over Infinity War? I’m not sure yet. I might have to watch it one more time before I decide. Both Avengers Infinity war and Endgame are at the top of my MCU list. In fact they both have a spot on my all time favourite comic book movies list. Bringing in the Russo Brothers was one of the best decisions Marvel Studios has ever made. I just want to thank them for picking up the torch and giving me a beautiful ending to this saga that I have grown up with.

Favourite characters:

  • Iron Man
  • Captain America
  • Rocket
  • Hawkeye/Ant Man

Least favourite characters:

  • Thor – I understand what they were trying to do with the character and how he dealt with grief/guilt. I understand people put on a brave face and laugh their way through pain, but I felt like they were being too comedic with it.
  • Hulk

Mysterious Line Dropped in New Avengers: Endgame Clip

Earlier today Marvel released a new clip from their upcoming movie Avengers: Endgame. The clip shows us the remaining Avengers, plus new recruit Carol Danvers at Avengers HQ coming up with a plan to kill Thanos. Now, this clip dropped around midday. And I thought nothing of it. I mean I was still hyped and it was great to see these characters strategise and clash heads. But fast forward a couple of hours later, it seems like I missed a crucial part of this clip. And it turns out that I wasn’t the only one.

Just as Thor goes up to approach Carol you hear a voice say “I have telepathy”. Listen closely down below (Turn up your volume really high)

Crazy right? Once you hear it you can no longer unhear it. From this clip it sounds like Carol’s voice. I’m no expert on the Captain Marvel character so this came as a surprise to me. But it kind of makes sense in the context of the clip. Straight after that line is said she isn’t phased by Thor summoning Stormbreaker right next to her. Maybe she read his mind and saw it coming. Other people have said the voice could possibly be Scarlet Witch as she’s communicating to the Avengers from the soul world. I personally don’t buy this theory. But what do you think of this line?

Let me know your thoughts below.

Avengers: Endgame Runtime Revealed?

We’re only a month away from one of the biggest movie events of the year. Or all time some would say. But how long will this event known as Avenger: Endgame last? Well, according to AMC Theatres Avengers: Endgame has a runtime of just over 3 hours. 3 hours and 2 minutes to be specific. This would make it the longest movie in the MCU ever and rightly so. While this runtime hasn’t been officially confirmed by the studio yet I would be shocked if it doesn’t go past the 2 hour and 30 minute runtime of Avengers: Infinity War.

There you have it. We could potentially be in the theatres for 3 hours on April 25th. Make it longer by a couple more hours I wouldn’t mind.

The Avengers 4: Endgame Trailer: Less is Better

Finally! After spending months in the dark after the events of Avengers: Infinity War we get something tangible from the upcoming Avengers 4 film. Not only did we get the title (Endgame), which I love. We also, got a teaser trailer to go along with it. It was a long wait but man did they deliver.

In general I really like this trailer. What I liked the most about it, was how it was handled. A lot of times in the past we’ve seen trailers show too much. However, with this trailer they took the opposite approach. They showed as little as possible, but it still got people like me hooked. There’s so many questions people have after this short trailer. I’m just going to give my thoughts on what the main characters are going through.

Tony

Screen Shot 2018-12-08 at 00.03.39

The trailer starts off with Tony at his lowest point after losing the battle against Thanos on Titan. I loved this whole opening with Tony. It brought this sense of hopelessness to the film. Just a quick reminder to us that yes, the Avengers lost. Tony for one of the smartest people in the universe looks like he has no answers left as he records this goodbye message to Pepper Potts. What I liked the most about the dialogue here was how it felt like Tony was also talking to us, the audience. Especially when he was saying things like every journey has an end. With Tony on the verge of dying, flying in the middle of no where. It feels like a certain captain might run into him. I also have to point out that he’s not alone on the ship. Nebula is also present with him as she is shown in a later shot on the same ship.

Thanos

Screen Shot 2018-12-08 at 00.04.59

After winning Thanos is doing exactly what he wants… living his life. He’s in the same place where we last saw him in Avengers: Infinity War. It appears the gauntlet is still busted from the snap. Thanos looks to be on him farm, growing crops and just minding his own business. For how long though? I think the rest of the Avengers will find their way to him.

Rest of the Avengers

Screen Shot 2018-12-08 at 00.04.48

After spending the opening moments with Tony. The rest of the trailer is centred around the Avengers who survived the snap. It’s mainly up to Captain America and Black Widow, to somehow bounce back after their greatest defeat. I just love how the impact of Infinity War is felt here. With half the population gone the world seems so small now.  Seeing Steve cry was tough. Thor too. He didn’t even have to say a word. You can see what’s going on in his mind. After all, he didn’t go for the head. He must be blaming himself for all of this. Hawkeye is back! I mean Ronin! He looks to be in Japan just kicking ass. My guess is he’s gone full Ronin since his family were taken away from him by the snap. The trailer ended with Ant-Man showing up to the Avengers HQ. The last time we saw him, he was stuck in the Quantum Realm. Well, it looks like he can get in and get out of the Quantum Realm. This means he’ll be crucial in the movie. Because I guarantee the Quantum Realm will be used in this movie to help get the rest of the Avengers back.

As for the Avengers who fell victim to the snap? Well, we have no idea what they’re doing. And good! I don’t want to know until I sit down in the theatre next April. This trailer was overall a great appetiser for what’s to come. I hope they keep this vague approach with the rest of the promotional material for the movie.

Chris Evans Bids Farewell To Captain America Role?

763ab2ea945506ce414fa784a2e54

Reshoots for next year’s Avengers 4 movie have been going on for a number of weeks now. A couple of weeks ago, on social media Chris Hemsworth, told fans that he had completed his scenes for the reshoots. Now, it was time for Chris Evans, Captain America, himself to complete his final scenes for the upcoming movie. Judging by what he posted on his Twitter a couple of hours ago, he might’ve just shot his final scenes as Captain America!

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

As you can see from the tweet above Chris Evans, heavily implies this could be the last time we’ll see him in this role. I have to say this was a strange tweet to put out before the movie is released. We don’t even know the title of the movie yet. Or it’s possible that he does feel emotional after playing this role for nearly a decade. Personally, I think we will see the end of Captain America in Avengers 4. Whether the character dies or retires, I’m not sure about that. In the comics the likes of Falcon and Bucky have gone on to replace him. The main issue here is how great Chris Evans has been in the role. He’s set a really high bar for anyone else to pick up the shield after him.

Or is this all a trick to build more hype for the upcoming movie? I wouldn’t put it past the Russo Brothers at this point.

Is Avengers 4 going to be the last time we will see Chris Evans, as Captain America?

Avengers 4 Concept Art Shows Major Changes Made To Characters

Information on next year’s Avengers movie has been scarce. We don’t even know what the official title of the movie is yet. However, as we go into September, expect to see Marvel release tons of information on one of their biggest movies ever. I know, I feel like I find myself saying that with every Avengers movie.

avengers-4-leaked-promo-art-fixed-1024x571

A couple of weeks ago this concept art had leaked from Avengers 4. Initially this promo art was labelled as a ‘fake’. However, just a couple of days ago, someone has leaked a better version of this promo art. The most interesting to note about this concept art is how it only features the Avengers who survived the ‘snap’.

Here’s a close up on a few of the characters:

Captain Marvel

a4-promo-art-carol

Captain Marvel, is expected to play a huge role in Avengers 4. The concept art shows the character in her traditional suit which she will obtain in her solo movie.

Hulk

a4-promo-art-hulk

This might be the most interesting aspect of the concept art. Yes, Hulk in his own suit. It looks odd but, he has had this type of look a number of times in the comics.

Captain America

a4-promo-art-cap.jpg

When looking at Captain America, again, this concept art looks to be accurate. Having seen set photos from Avengers 4, we know Cap will no longer have the beard and will be wearing an earlier version of his suit.

The likes of Iron Man, Thor and Rocket remain unchanged from Avengers: Infinity War:

The Synopsis For Avengers 4 Revealed

If you’re still recovering from the events of Avengers: Infinity War I don’t blame you, you’re not alone there. But there’s also this little movie coming out next year called Avengers 4 which will pick up after the events of Infinity War. While it hasn’t been confirmed as a part two it has to be considering the way Infinity War ended. We don’t have the official title for Avengers 4 yet as the Russos are still keeping it under wraps but today the synopsis for the movie has been revealed in Licensing Magazine

The official synopsis for Avengers 4 is:

“A culmination of 22 interconnected films, the fourth instalment of the Avengers saga will draw audiences to witness the turning point of this epic journey. Our beloved heroes will truly understand how fragile this reality is, and the sacrifices that must be made to uphold it.”

This is worrying because it clearly states that some sacrifices will have to be made and I believe this time for real. Some Avengers are going to die for good in this movie with my main prediction being Cap. The “turning point” in the synopsis could be describing how the Avengers will have to go back in time through the Quantum Realm which is just my guess from the set photos that have already surfaced. If they’re going with the time travel route there will have to be consequences for going back in time.

Let me know your thoughts on the synopsis for Avengers

Have you got any early predictions/theories?

Avengers 4 And The Quantum Realm

This article will contain spoilers from Avengers: Infinity War, you have been warned!

Avengers: Infinity War isn’t even a week old as I write this but thanks to the ending of the movie the conversation around Avengers 4 has dominated the internet for the past couple of days. If you have already seen the set photos from Avengers 4 which is set to be released next year one of the most important things you would have noticed is the Avengers are in their original costumes.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

As you can see from the set photos those present on set are Iron Man, Captain America, Loki, Thor and Bruce Banner. However amongst the original cast one character that is also present who raised a lot of questions at the time of the release of these photos is Ant-Man. Having seen these set photos before Infinity War I paid Ant-Man no mind but with how the movie ended it makes sense now and his presence raises a lot of questions. What the set photos tell us is that Ant-Man is crucial to Avengers 4. With half the universe gone he will play a key role for one reason only… The Quantum Realm. Now what is the Quantum Realm? I’ll try my best to explain it, again I’m no expert so correct me if I’m wrong please.

The Quantum Realm to its core is an alternative dimension where place and time become irrelevant and it can only be accessed through magical energy, mystical transportation or by using ‘tremendous subatomic shrinking’. That last point is crucial because that’s where of course Ant-Man comes in. The Quantum Realm cannot be accessed by Doctor Strange in Avengers 4 because as you saw he ‘died’ and they can’t use the time stone as long as Thanos has it. Ant-Man who we never see in Infinity War most likely survived the snap and is the only one who can access the Quantum Realm now. A line about the Quantum Realm was also dropped in the recent Ant-Man and The Wasp trailer.

This is how it has been described when one enters the Quantum Realm:

At that point, time does not hold any sway and concepts of space are irrelevant. Once there, they will be frozen in time, unable to age, but also be in a state of unconsciousness or half consciousness, barely aware of their surroundings. (via. Marvelcinematicuniverse)

Assessing the Quantum Realm could serve multiple purposes:

  • It would allow the remaining Avengers to go back in time and save those who were perished during the snap.
  • Or it could be used to travel to the soul world where Thanos currently is by the end of the movie and that could also be where the rest of the Avengers are. Again that’s just a theory I could be way off with that point.
  • They could also use the Quantum Realm to travel back in time to recruit Captain Marvel because she’s from the 1990s and because of her strengths and power she is their best hope to defeat Thanos, she could even pick up the gauntlet. Also her film comes out just before Avengers 4 so be sure to see some reference to the activities that took place during Infinity War in the post credit scenes.

One of the most important things to take away when someone enters the Quantum Realm is “whoever tries to explore it may become trapped for eternity”. This is interesting because it implies the possibilities of one of the original Avengers dying in this film (for real this time). There has to be consequences for travelling back in time, and there always is. Maybe in Avengers 4 we’ll see some of the original Avengers lose their lives in the process of saving the new Avengers. As for who I think will die in Avengers 4 in my opinion it’s between Captain America and Tony Stark. I mean it’s been set up clearly, they never got to reconcile in Infinity War and once they do in Avengers 4 I think one of them will say their final goodbye. My theory is Tony will end up with the Infinity Gauntlet. Tony will also play a crucial role in this film because Doctor Strange gave up the time stone to save him meaning he was important to the one outcome Strange saw when the Avengers eventually win. And once again if he were to get his hands on the gauntlet a sacrifice would have to be made for the soul stone and I believe that will be Steve Rogers.

Let me know what you think of all these theories

What are your predictions for Avengers 4?

Avengers: Infinity War Review (Spoilers)

“In time you will know what it’s like to lose” – Thanos

THIS REVIEW WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS!

After 10 years of build up and 18 movies finally it’s here! Was it even possible for this film to live up to the expectations and hype that came with this long journey? For me I haven’t been this excited for a movie in a really long time. And did it live up to the hype for me? The Russo brothers having directed Winter Soldier, Civil War and now Infinity War are 3/3 in my opinion. Even after my first viewing I loved this movie and after my second viewing I loved it more than the first time. I would actually recommend watching this movie more than once. Not because its a deep film like Inception that requires multiple viewings. With this film there’s just so much going on, it’s literally an event. You get to enjoy it more and be more relaxed with the second viewing because you’re not constantly on edge the whole time. However given how much goes on in this film with the multiple characters and directions this review will kind of be all over the place. I simply cannot cover every aspect of the film therefore I’m going to talk about the elements I really loved in this film.

With that being said let’s get straight into it:

Thanos

Screen Shot 2018-03-16 at 19.15.20

What better place to start with this review than with the main character of the film. Thanos without a doubt is now my favourite MCU villain and one of my favourite villains of all time. I loved Killmonger in Black Panther but with Thanos from his dialogue, CGI and Josh Brolin’s acting he continues to set the bar high for comic book villains in general. I mean he had to be the the best MCU villain right? This was damn near 10 years in the making ever since we saw that purple creature smile at us in the post credit scene of Avengers. We are shown just what Thanos is all about in the first 10 minutes of the film where he destroys the Hulk and kills both Heimdall and Loki. One of the main reasons why I love Thanos is mostly due to Josh Brolin’s performance as the Mad Titan. Given the character is mostly CGI that doesn’t stop him from providing us with a great performance. The way he delivers his lines and his voice are just chilling at times. Every time he’s on the screen you can’t take your eyes off him, he takes up the whole screen. Whenever he talks you listen to every word and your anticipating what he’s going to say next. The CGI work done on the character has to be praised here too, it would come to no surprise if the majority of the budget for the film was spent on Thanos and it pays off.

One of my favourite Thanos moments in this film is the whole soul stone sequence. His relationship Gamora, the acting from both the actors and even the CGI down to the tears of Thanos are amazing. As for Thanos’s goal we all knew he going into this movie that he wanted to collect all six of the infinity stones but why? Is he a bad guy just because or is there more to it? And yes there’s more to it. While I don’t agree with his ideas and goals it does provide for an interesting character. Thanos is someone that wants to help balance the universe, to make it a better place where people can thrive and it does sound like a great idea until the method that is uses is straight up genocide. Granted I don’t think we’re meant to be cheering for Thanos throughout this film at all, but what it does provide for is the best main villain of the MCU that I have seen so far.

Character Interactions

One of my favourite things in this movie is how the characters are handled with this huge cast. Overall there are over 30 characters in this film and the Russos had to find a way where everyone had their screen time and chance to shine and they accomplished that extremely well by splitting up the heroes into various groups.

Group 1: Guardians of the Galaxy + Thor

Avengers-Infinity-War-Thor-Rocket-Groot-750x380

This without a doubt is my favourite group dynamic in the whole film. Having Thor interact with the Guardians of the Galaxy was great, especially with this new Thor that had changed with Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok. They just bounce off each other so well, I found myself laughing throughout the whole scene where they first meet. Eventually the group does split with Thanos, Groot and Rocket Raccoon going to make Thor’s new weapon and I found myself enjoying this new group dynamic even more. The tree, a rabbit and a god. I never thought I would have enjoyed this group that much. And a lot of that has to do with Chris Hemsworth’s acting in this film, his comedic timing is great. Even during the more emotional scenes where Thor is talking to Rocket about the people he has lost the two interact very well. Thor was definitely my favourite character coming out of this movie and that was solidified with the moment he lands in Wakanda and he just starts wrecking people, you get the feeling of ‘Yep this guy is really a god’.

Group 2: Doctor Strange + Iron Man + Spider-Man

doctor_strange_with_iron_man_and_spider_man_by_alvaxerox-dc27qzn

The second main group while it wasn’t my favourite there’s still a lot to be enjoyed here. First of all seeing Doctor Strange and Tony Stark interact is great, this was the main two character I couldn’t wait to see come together going into the film. Mainly because they are both so similar in their egos and how they both walk to the beat of their own drum. These two huge personalities were bound to clash and when they did it was great, and you throw Spider-Man and Star-Lord into the mix it just gets even better. I love Spider-Man in this movie Tom Holland just gives off such a realistic performance, this is exactly how you would expect a kid to act if he was standing next to Doctor Strange and Iron Man. Also one of my favourite scenes in the movie is where Tony’s group meets the rest of the Guardians and they share a scene where they are fighting each other. It also provides for great interactions with Drax and especially between Tony and Star-Lord.

The rest of the characters

avengers-infinity-war-1511963659

As for the rest of the Avengers they kind of suffer due to the screen time given to the two main groups. Captain America my favourite character while he gets a great entrance scene doesn’t really have much to do in the film along with those who accompany him such as T’Challa. Although the film explores the relationship between Scarlet Witch and Vision them along with the likes of Bruce Banner, Falcon and Bucky are just there until they get to the final act in Wakanda. Maybe this film had too many characters to juggle resulting in us not being able to spend the time we wanted with certain characters but I do think for the most part the Russos got it right with the 2 main groups.

The Black Order

460ebdfeca84c63fba3210e644d53a91adaf7906

While Thanos is of course the main villain of the film he’s not the only protagonist the heroes have to come up against. Of the Black Order my favourite character is easily Ebony Maw, I was kind of gutted that his character got killed off so quickly. I loved his powers, and mostly his dialogue. I love how he gave Doctor Strange a fight for his money, I would’ve loved to have seen him go up against Doctor Strange in a solo movie but unfortunately that won’t be happening anymore. Proxima Midnight on the other hand was just ok however CGI work done on the character didn’t really look good at all. I do wish the Black Order were made to look more powerful but then again there’s so much going on in this film that they had to be sidelined for the other main characters.

The Ending

Thanos-Snap.jpg

Now for the most talked about aspect of the film, the ending! I really struggled to take in the ending for a long time after my first viewing. I just didn’t know what to say, the theatre was so quite when the credits started rolling, I never experienced that in a movie theatre before . We all knew Thanos was going to collect all of the infinity stones but I for one didn’t expect the snap to happen especially at that point. When the snap came I had completely forgot about it and it caught me way off guard I loved it! What proceeds the snap is shots of the Avengers disappearing slowly one by one, with no music at all making it even more powerful. The ‘deaths’ that stood out to me were Doctor Strange’s, Groot’s and of course Spider-Man. Tom Holland’s acting in that scene was great and yes we all know that a Spider-Man sequel will be coming out next year but that didn’t stop me from being invested in his death scene. The main controversy surrounding this scene is how many of these deaths and the ones throughout the film are permanent? I believe that the deaths that took place before the snap will be permanent (Vision, Gamora, Loki and Heimdall). If you pay close attention apart from Nebula and Rocket those who are left are the original Avengers. We have already seen the leaked photos from the set of Avengers 4 with the original cast in their old costumes which means they go back in time to save everyone. Doctor Strange said he saw only one outcome where they win and this is it in Avengers 4. Tony had to survive because somehow he will save everyone or play a key role in Avengers 4.

Overall I thought Avengers Infinity War was a great movie, it handles the tone really well. While for the most part this is a dark movie it does have light moments too which are definitely needed. Where it falls on my MCU list it may fall just under Winter Soldier at number 2. However it’s hard to judge this film against the other solo movies, one thing for sure is that Infinity War is the best Avengers movie yet.

Avengers: Infinity War Trailer Further Breakdown

The second trailer for Avengers Infinity War came out a week ago and yet and I’m not ashamed to say that I’ve seen the trailer around 100 times. Initially when I first watched the trailer I gave my thoughts and opinions on it. And while I was happy with the analysis I put out on the trailer, the more I watched the trailer the more stuff I started to pick up. So for this article I want to give my analysis on things I missed when I first wrote about my thoughts on the trailer. It also maybe some stuff you missed out too. Keep in mind I don’t try to portray myself as an expert so please feel free to correct me if I get anything wrong.

My biggest question going into this film is “Where is the Soul Stone?”. Arguably it’s the most important stone that makes up the infinity gauntlet. The Soul Stone will allow the owner to take control over people’s soul by taking away life and also bringing people back to life. You can see why this is the infinity stone that we haven’t seen at all in the MCU yet. With the first trailer I thought that the Soul Stone was located in Wakanda as we see a huge battle taking place there in both trailers. Also it has been reported that the final act of the film will take place in Wakanda. However after watching the trailer multiple times it’s clear that the scenes in Wakanda are not related to the Soul Stone, again I could be wrong. But If you listen to Tony Stark’s lines closely throughout the trailer he says how they need to use what Thanos wants to their advantage. We see shots of Vision who posses the mind stone along with Scarlett Witch in Wakanda. Now I think they’re hiding Vision in Wakanda. Which of course makes sense given the Wakanda’s technology and secrecy, they would provide the best chance of taking out Thanos when he eventually tracks them down.

How many Infinity Stones does Thanos have?

Throughout both trailers whenever we see Thanos with the infinity gauntlet he only has 2 stones. These stones are the Power Stone and the Space Stone. If we believe the third act of the film takes place in Wakanda we see the shot of Captain America going up against Thanos and again he has the same two stones on his gauntlet. However I am willing to bet that Thanos has more than 2 stones at this point. If you remember in the first trailer they CGI’d Thor’s eye back in, they also did the same with the Thor: Ragnarok trailers. I think at this point Thanos would have at least picked up another Infinity Stone from The Collector which is the Reality Stone.

Thanos collects the Tesseract

When Thor: Ragnarok ended we were treated to an after credit scene where Thanos’s ship showed up in front of Thor and the rest of the Asgardian’s that survived the destruction of their homeland. I believe this film will open with Thanos collecting the Tesseract from Loki as we see the Black Order are standing around him in the trailer. We also see shots of Thanos almost torturing Thor in front of Loki forcing him to give up the Tesseract. Somehow I think the ship will eventually blow up and Thor finds himself crashing on ‘The Milano’ where he meets the Guardians of the Galaxy. What happens to Loki after this is interesting, does he join Thanos and the Black Order? Also with this scene it’s important to note that Bruce Banner is also present on that ship. Judging by how the first trailer opened with Banner crashing into Doctor Strange’s Sanctum Sanctorum alerting Tony and the others of Thanos’s imminent arrival. Maybe we’ll get to see a fight between Thanos and Hulk early on in the movie which should be epic.

Ebony Maw

EbonyMaw

Ebony Maw is apart of Thanos’s team which is known as the Black Order. They will play an important role in the film by doing a lot of Thanos’s dirty work and maybe even collecting some infinity stones for him. I feel the most important member of the Black Order will be Ebony Maw. Just to give you some background on the character’s abilities one of his main traits is persuasion. He can use mind control to take over someone’s thoughts and movements. Clearly from the trailer this ability will be used on Doctor Strange. As we saw from the trailer Ebony Maw is torturing Doctor Strange and I believe he’s in the process of taking over his mind. I believe Ebony Maw will be using Doctor Strange to locate a number of Infinity Stones that Thanos is looking for. My guess would be that’s how they find Vision hiding in Wakanda given how secret Wakandan is to the rest of the world.
