After making over $1 billion at the Box Office this year it was only a matter of time before an Aquaman sequel was green-lit. The underwater sensation has become the flagship of the DCEU since it was released in December of last year. We all knew a sequel was coming, but when? Today, we found out that answer. Aquaman 2 will be released on December 16, 2022. So we’ve got to wait around 3 years before we see Jason Momoa’s Aquaman grace the big screen. I was honestly surprised they announced the date so soon. This would most likely explain that video of Jason Momoa running around the Warner Bros. offices claiming “You have no idea what’s coming next”. Aquaman is clearly the money maker at Warner Bros. I don’t blame them for pushing for a sequel so soon. It wont be long before we get a trilogy. Ain’t that crazy? I never thought we would be getting multiple Aquaman movies. Although it wasn’t stated in the report I would expect director James Wan to comeback for the sequel. It would only make sense right?
Aquaman is set to be released on December 16, 2022
Information about Matt Reeves’ upcoming Batman movie has slowly been surfacing in the past 24 hours. Earlier today, we got an interview with Matt Reeves talking about what direction he’s going to be taking the movie in, along with a potential release date. Well, several hours later we now have a release date for the movie confirmed. But it comes as a bittersweet moment as it has finally been confirmed Ben Affleck will not be returning to the cowl. Starting with the good. We finally have a release date! Deadline with an exclusive confirmed Matt Reeves’ Batman movie is set to be released on June 25, 2021.
Ben Affleck – Batman no more…
Now for the bad news…well for me since Ben Affleck’s Batman is my favourite portrayal of the character so far. Deadline, in the same report also claimed that Affleck is going to hang up the cowl as the movie is set to be focused on a much younger Batman. At first when reading this report it felt like the same old stuff that has come out about Affleck leaving the role in the past.
Then Affleck took to Twitter and retweeted the article and stating how he was looking forward to seeing where director Matt Reeves takes the project. We all know this was most likely going to happen, but it still sucks to get the confirmation. Throughout the past couple of years it’s been tough watching Affleck going from directing, writing and starring in the Batman movie to ending up doing none of them at all now.
Regardless, no actor will be bigger than the actor for me and I’ll be there on opening night in June 2021. While I’m kinda fed up that I never got my Batfleck solo movie I can’t lie I’m still excited about the future of Batman without Ben Affleck. I can’t wait to see who takes on the cowl next.
Thanks for everything Ben!
Matt Reeves Batman is set to be released on 25 June, 2021
Information on Matt Reeves’ upcoming Batman movie has been scarce. Matt Reeves has been fairly quite since he came onto the project. He’s keeping things a mystery and keeping the fans guessing. Granted, he has done interviews in the past where he’s given us little snippets on his Batman film, but not enough as of yet. Today, he sat down with The Hollywood Reporter and actually gave us quite a detailed look into his Batman film from the potential villains, the story and the most important thing, the release date.
He are the key points to take away from this interview:
A Noir driven story
Lesley Goldberg:“So, Batman. Tell us your take”
Matt Reeves “It’s very much a point of view-driven, noir Batman tale. It’s told very squarely on his shoulders, and I hope it’s going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional. It’s more Batman in his detective mode than we’ve seen in the films. The comics have a history of that. He’s supposed to be the world’s greatest detective, and that’s not necessarily been a part of what the movies have been. I’d love this to be one where when we go on that journey of tracking down the criminals and trying to solve a crime, it’s going to allow his character to have an arc so that he can go through a transformation.”
Confirmation there will be more than one villain in the movie:
Lesley Goldberg: “Have you begun the casting process?”
Matt Reeves:There will be a Rogues Gallery. The casting process will begin shortly. We’re starting to put together our battle plan. I’m doing another pass on the script and we’ll begin some long-lead stuff to start developing conceptual things.
Potential 2021 release date
Lesley Goldberg: “What’s your goal as far as a release date?”
Matt Reeves: “We haven’t been dated. I wouldn’t commit to this, but we’re thinking the movie would probably be for 2021, late spring or summer. Warner Bros. has been incredibly supportive and given me a lot of time and shared the same passion that I do for this story.”
Overall, there were three key things to take away from this interview. The first being how the story is going to be noir driven. Now he’s already told us this like five times already. But, it’s great to hear it again anyway. It looks like he’s going to be taking the character back to his roots. The second thing to take away is the use of multiple villains who will link in with this noir driven story. We all know Batman has one of the greatest rogues gallery. Given the type of story he’s going for my best guess would be that the Riddler is going to be one of the villains.
And now for the most important part of the interview. The release date. 2021 feels like a realistic release date since the project hasn’t even started filming yet. Keep in mind, we still haven’t had confirmation on if Ben Affleck is going to return to the role. Either way Matt Reeves has been saying all of the right things about his Batman movie. As a huge Batman fan this sounds like the movie of my dreams.

Earlier today, Margot Robbie provided us with our first look at Harley Quinn in the upcoming Birds of Prey movie. Hours later the studio have now released an early teaser for the upcoming project which started shooting a couple of weeks ago. This is more of a production teaser with the cast going through their costume tests. What this teaser did give us was our first look at the whole gang in their costumes.
The teaser also gave us a look at Black Mask and Zsasz who were not in their costumes:
Feel free to check out the teaser below and let me know your thoughts on it:
Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of one Harley Quinn) is set to be released on February 7, 2020
Margot Robbie’s girl-gang movie Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of one Harley Quinn) has been shooting since the start of the year. Unlike when previous DC movies have started shooting we haven’t seen any set photos leak yet. One has to think it will only be a matter of time before they start filming in the public. However, Margot Robbie gave us something on her Instagram this morning which should hold us over until then. With the film currently in production Margot Robbie, decided to give us our first look at Harley Quinn in the upcoming movie.
Granted, it isn’t an official first look. It’s more of a selfie of her just waiting around on set. Therefore, it’s hard to see how much of her look has changed since the last time we saw her in Suicide Squad. One thing that has caught the attention of many comic book fans like myself is the dog tag Harley’s wearing. If you look closely you can see it says ‘Bruce’ on it. What does this mean? Just an Easter Egg or acknowledgement that Bruce exists in this universe. Could he possibly play a small role in the movie? Or is this just part of Harley’s crazy personality. After all, she would name her dog after Bruce Wayne.

Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of one Harley Quinn) is set to be released on February 7, 2020
DC’s biggest movie of the year is only a couple of weeks away from its release. We’ve gone a whole year without a live-action DC movie (minus Teen Titans Go!). It doesn’t feel like that for some reason. It feels like Justice League was only released a couple of months ago. Speaking of Justice League, some would say James Wan’s Aquaman, is an opportunity to take Warner Bros. back into the right direction. There’s a lot of pressure James Wan’s shoulders with this film. Just the scale of the film alone is something that very few people in the industry can pull off. And today, we’ll get to see what the media thought of the film and whether James Wan’s Aquaman lives up to the hype.
As with all major releases the film was screened early to the press. A couple of weeks ago members of the press were shown the film and here are their thoughts:
Paul Shirey (Joblo)
Short & sweet reaction to #Aquaman is that I loved it. It’s a comic book movie through & through with great action, iconic moments & visual spectacle to spare. Momoa makes the character his own & Wan honors the traditional aspects, but elevates it to the modern era. It’s a blast.
I’ll take some heat for this, but #Aquaman is the best Marvel movie that DC has made. That doesn’t mean it’s exactly like that formula, but it feels like a film that knows what it is, what it’s selling and who it’s selling to. There’s no identity crisis here.
Chalk up a big, wet win for DC. @creepypuppet’s #Aquaman is an epic, swing-for-the-fences adventure that plunges fans into incredibly creative worlds. Goofy in spots, but it's rollicking fun. See it on the biggest screen possible! pic.twitter.com/ahODJ4mJAI
Fighting back the tide of DC negativity, #Aquaman is a lot of fun and brilliantly shot. It's not without its flaws, yet Jason Momoa is a charismatic lead and it very much feels like a @creepypuppet movie. Check back on @digitalspy on December 11 for the full review. pic.twitter.com/LyD8Pfy84d
#Aquaman is … good! It's certainly greater than the sum of its parts. It's chock full of ridiculous elements but it’s all so inherently bonkers that you’d have to be an utter killjoy to not get caught up in it pic.twitter.com/VV5PMGT9er
#Aquaman is an epic fantasy adventure on the high seas! It’s packed with thrilling action in a dazzling underwater world like nothing I’ve ever seen in superhero movies, or anywhere else. I had a total blast watching this movie & so will you. See it on the biggest screen you can! pic.twitter.com/uRWXDTE48K
#Aquaman is pretty wild. It leans hard into its '80s fantasy/adventure movie vibe far more than superhero elements, and it works. It's another step in the right direction for the DCEU and shows how different/distinct the tones of these movies can be while still existing together.
#Aquaman was an absolute blast, from the charm of Momoa's Arthur Curry, to the spectacular visuals to the fun that it was clear that everyone was having. It was exactly what I was hoping for and I can't wait to see it again! I'll give you more details when I'm allowed! pic.twitter.com/FyeczAJJIJ
So I really enjoyed #Aquaman! James Wan has made an unapologetically bold superhero flick, mixing adventure and fantasy elements with stunning visual effects, a terrific lead in Jason Momoa (who's clearly having the time of his life), and a great heroine in Amber Heard's Mera. pic.twitter.com/V8bnw6mnCX
Does #Aquaman tie into the larger DCEU? Hard to say. Little mention of the world outside Atlantis, for better & worse. But what I know is it'll be a long time before I forget Vulko's lyrical dance interpretation of Arthur Curry's conception. Best superhero film since DARK KNIGHT
In case you didn’t know already. There is a solo Joker movie starring Joaquin Phoenix (directed by Todd Phillips) currently in production. Filming only just started last week and thanks to Just Jared, we have gotten our first look at Phoenix’s Joker in action. Also director Todd Phillips, I’m guessing has responding to these leaked by giving us our first official look at Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker.
See below for the set photos and Todd Phillip’s post:
Just a couple of minutes after these set photos leaked. Director Todd Phillips took to Instagram and gave us our first official look at Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker (Arthur).
This Joker movie is going to be an origin movie which is set in the 80s. It will not feature Batman. But, it will feature his father, Thomas Wayne. The movie is not going to be connected to the DCEU at all. And it will stand alone in its own universe.
The Joker movie is set to be released on 4, October 2019
It feels like Matt Reeves’ Batman movie has been in development forever. Information surrounding the project has been scarce. Matt Reeves has been tight-lipped during the whole process, and I don’t blame him. However, in the past couple of months he has slowly been giving up updates. One of the major things he revealed was how he’s close to submitting his first draft for the script. While Matt Reeves hasn’t publicity stated that he’s submitted the first draft yet. Umberto Gonzalez responding to a fan on Twitter last night revealed the first draft has been submitted to the studio.
People have their own thoughts and opinions on Umberto as a source. Personally I find him to be pretty reliable. And I trust him here. With the first draft submitted this should hopefully mean the studio are still on track to start shooting the project next spring!

What would you love to see in Matt Reeves’ Batman script?
Now I can’t lie although I thought the Aquaman trailer was amazing I found myself enjoying the Shazam! trailer a lot more. This is not a knock to the Aquaman trailer or James Wan, I just find myself replaying the Shazam! trailer more than the Aquaman one. To be honest I was already sold on Aquaman before the trailer was even released. I know what James Wan is capable of and the horror elements he would bring to Aquaman. Now Shazam! is an entirely different case to me. A kid who turns into a superhero with the mention of a single word sounds great on paper (hence the popularity of the character). But how would that work on the big screen? Especially in 2019? This was one of the biggest questions I had going into this trailer. And Sandberg along with the cast look go have got it spot on. I love everything about this trailer. The tone, humour and even the way its shot given its much smaller budget compared to the previous DCEU films. Now I’m not going to pretend like I’m the biggest Shazam/Captain Marvel fan ever but from what I know of the character they have done a good job at both respecting the past of the character while embracing the more recent iterations of Shazam with the New 52 run.
Zachary Levi looks great in the suit and plays the whole inner-child aspect of the character really well. Granted we can see that the suit is padded and Zachary Levi clearly isn’t that big but it feels like they did it on purpose, it fits the tone of the movie. While Zachary Levi will play the most important role in the movie the child actors that were picked here are the real stars of the trailer for me. Asher makes a great Billy Batson in my opinion and Jack Dylan Grazer as Freddy Freeman was involved in my favourite moments from the trailer. I just feel like he does a great job at representing us comic fans and how we would react if we find out our foster brother had superpowers.
I’ve seen people complain about the trailer potentially showing too much of the movie already. I’m guessing the majority of what they showed in the trailer takes place within the first 30/45 minutes of the movie. While I want to see Billy running around using his powers I also want to see the struggles he goes through as he’s trying to find that family structure in his life. But when he does discover his powers in the trailer that’s when the fun begins. Those training montages are great I can’t wait to see more of them. My favourite part of the trailer is the robbery scene where Shazam finds out he’s bulletproof. Freddy’s reaction in this scene makes it for me, you can tell him and Zachary have great chemistry on screen. We only caught a glimpse of Mark Strong’s Doctor Sivana and I’m expecting us to see a lot more of him in the second trailer. This just shows how they haven’t given away too much with this trailer.
Overall while the character of Shazam is familiar to me this trailer makes me want to go back and start reading through his comics. I think New Line Cinema could potentially have a gem on their hands with this movie. They really need to go full force with the marketing of the film. If done right and this trailer is a great start I think Shazam could reach the same level of popularity as the rest of the Justice League members in the cinematic universe. Speaking of cinematic universes I love how both Aquaman and Shazam! are completely movies in terms of style and tone but they still exist in the same universe. One day I hope we get to see Billy and Freddy interact with the Justice League in the future.
My expectations for this trailer were so high to the point where I felt worried about being let down by it in the end. Thankfully James Wan really blew it out of the water with this trailer(pun intended). This 2 and a half minute trailer was enough to satisfy fans like me who have been waiting for an Aquaman movie for years.
During the promotion run for this trailer people who visited the set compared this film to blockbusters such as Star Wars, Blade Runner and Lord of the Rings. And we saw all of these influences in the trailer. I’ve seen people complain about the use of CGI in this film and it blows my mind. Of course, this film would need to heavily rely on CGI, 2/3’s of the film is going to be underwater after all. I don’t think people understand how hard it is to make a live action underwater film look realistic. And to be honest they haven’t gone down the realistic route with this film. They have fully embraced that this is a comic book movie which pulls from multiple genres such as sci-fi and adventure. Visually the trailer is stunning and Atlantis looks even better than it did on the comic pages. There are some shots where the CGI looks choppy but that’s to be expected at this early stage. James Wan and his VFX team still have several months to perfect these shots.
As for the plot I love how Arthur is seen as an outsider now because he grew up on the surface, almost fully embracing his human side. The story of him coming home after Orm has taken over goes with the movie’s tagline “Home is calling“. It just shows that no matter how much time he spends on the surface world Atlantis is still his true home and I think we’ll see him struggle with the responsibilities he has on both the surface and underwater. Orm already looks like he’s going to be a General Zod level main villain. Patrick Wilson was a great choice for Orm and he has been provided with a really interesting character who will be a great match for Arthur and even someone we could sympathise with at points during the film given his motivations. The climax of the film looks to be an epic battle between Orm and Arthur involving their opposing armies and once again the visuals of the war scenes look amazing. My personal highlight from the trailer is finally getting to see a live action version of Black Manta. The suit looks incredible and Yahya looks great without the helmet on too. I felt like we didn’t get to see enough of him but that’s understandable since Orm is the main villain and Black Manta is being built up to star in multiple movies.
Overall I loved the trailer and it was the perfect appetiser for what’s to come in this underwater adventure. Remember this was only the first trailer, there’s still so much that we haven’t seen yet.
