Information on next year’s Avengers movie has been scarce. We don’t even know what the official title of the movie is yet. However, as we go into September, expect to see Marvel release tons of information on one of their biggest movies ever. I know, I feel like I find myself saying that with every Avengers movie.
A couple of weeks ago this concept art had leaked from Avengers 4. Initially this promo art was labelled as a ‘fake’. However, just a couple of days ago, someone has leaked a better version of this promo art. The most interesting to note about this concept art is how it only features the Avengers who survived the ‘snap’.
Here’s a close up on a few of the characters:
Captain Marvel, is expected to play a huge role in Avengers 4. The concept art shows the character in her traditional suit which she will obtain in her solo movie.
This might be the most interesting aspect of the concept art. Yes, Hulk in his own suit. It looks odd but, he has had this type of look a number of times in the comics.
When looking at Captain America, again, this concept art looks to be accurate. Having seen set photos from Avengers 4, we know Cap will no longer have the beard and will be wearing an earlier version of his suit.
The likes of Iron Man, Thor and Rocket remain unchanged from Avengers: Infinity War:
Let me know your thoughts on this early concept art down below
The second trailer for Avengers Infinity War came out a week ago and yet and I’m not ashamed to say that I’ve seen the trailer around 100 times. Initially when I first watched the trailer I gave my thoughts and opinions on it. And while I was happy with the analysis I put out on the trailer, the more I watched the trailer the more stuff I started to pick up. So for this article I want to give my analysis on things I missed when I first wrote about my thoughts on the trailer. It also maybe some stuff you missed out too. Keep in mind I don’t try to portray myself as an expert so please feel free to correct me if I get anything wrong.
Where is the soul stone
My biggest question going into this film is “Where is the Soul Stone?”. Arguably it’s the most important stone that makes up the infinity gauntlet. The Soul Stone will allow the owner to take control over people’s soul by taking away life and also bringing people back to life. You can see why this is the infinity stone that we haven’t seen at all in the MCU yet. With the first trailer I thought that the Soul Stone was located in Wakanda as we see a huge battle taking place there in both trailers. Also it has been reported that the final act of the film will take place in Wakanda. However after watching the trailer multiple times it’s clear that the scenes in Wakanda are not related to the Soul Stone, again I could be wrong. But If you listen to Tony Stark’s lines closely throughout the trailer he says how they need to use what Thanos wants to their advantage. We see shots of Vision who posses the mind stone along with Scarlett Witch in Wakanda. Now I think they’re hiding Vision in Wakanda. Which of course makes sense given the Wakanda’s technology and secrecy, they would provide the best chance of taking out Thanos when he eventually tracks them down.
How many Infinity Stones does Thanos have?
Throughout both trailers whenever we see Thanos with the infinity gauntlet he only has 2 stones. These stones are the Power Stone and the Space Stone. If we believe the third act of the film takes place in Wakanda we see the shot of Captain America going up against Thanos and again he has the same two stones on his gauntlet. However I am willing to bet that Thanos has more than 2 stones at this point. If you remember in the first trailer they CGI’d Thor’s eye back in, they also did the same with the Thor: Ragnarok trailers. I think at this point Thanos would have at least picked up another Infinity Stone from The Collector which is the Reality Stone.
Thanos collects the Tesseract
When Thor: Ragnarok ended we were treated to an after credit scene where Thanos’s ship showed up in front of Thor and the rest of the Asgardian’s that survived the destruction of their homeland. I believe this film will open with Thanos collecting the Tesseract from Loki as we see the Black Order are standing around him in the trailer. We also see shots of Thanos almost torturing Thor in front of Loki forcing him to give up the Tesseract. Somehow I think the ship will eventually blow up and Thor finds himself crashing on ‘The Milano’ where he meets the Guardians of the Galaxy. What happens to Loki after this is interesting, does he join Thanos and the Black Order? Also with this scene it’s important to note that Bruce Banner is also present on that ship. Judging by how the first trailer opened with Banner crashing into Doctor Strange’s Sanctum Sanctorum alerting Tony and the others of Thanos’s imminent arrival. Maybe we’ll get to see a fight between Thanos and Hulk early on in the movie which should be epic.
Ebony Maw is apart of Thanos’s team which is known as the Black Order. They will play an important role in the film by doing a lot of Thanos’s dirty work and maybe even collecting some infinity stones for him. I feel the most important member of the Black Order will be Ebony Maw. Just to give you some background on the character’s abilities one of his main traits is persuasion. He can use mind control to take over someone’s thoughts and movements. Clearly from the trailer this ability will be used on Doctor Strange. As we saw from the trailer Ebony Maw is torturing Doctor Strange and I believe he’s in the process of taking over his mind. I believe Ebony Maw will be using Doctor Strange to locate a number of Infinity Stones that Thanos is looking for. My guess would be that’s how they find Vision hiding in Wakanda given how secret Wakandan is to the rest of the world.
Let me know your thoughts on the trailer
Did I miss out anything from the trailer that you picked up on?
“The entire time I knew him he only ever had one goal… To wipe out half the universe. If he gets all of the Infinity Stones he can do it with a snap of his fingers” – Gamora
All I have to say is WOW! that was something! Honestly for me that topped the first trailer we saw back in November. I won’t waste anymore of your time because there is a lot jam-packed into this 2 minute trailer.
The trailer opens with a monologue by Gamora who is talking about how her Father’s (Thanos) one goal is to wipe out half of the universe. We start to see scenes of a Thanos looking very differently from the Thanos we saw in the last trailer. A lot of these shots show Thanos with his full armour on which personally is his best look to me. I like how a lot of this trailer is focused on the character of Thanos. We see flashback scenes of a young Gamora holding his hand on their home planet. It’ll be interesting to see what will happen when they see each other again.
“We’ve got one advantage… He’s coming to us” – Tony Stark
After 10 years of build up Thanos has finally arrived on Earth
This line from Tony Stark tells us how Thanos has finally made his way to Earth and is now invading. How many planet’s he destroys on his way to Earth we don’t know yet. Remember the Power Stone is currently located in Xandar from Guardians of the Galaxy. So I’m sure we’ll see a scene of Thanos visiting there collecting the Power Stone before he arrives on Earth. New York as we know it seems to be the place where Thanos chooses to invade first as we see Peter Parker is forced to abandon his school bus to swing around the city because of what is going on in the sky.
“We have what Thanos wants so that’s what we use” – Tony Stark
Scarlet Witch and Vision both in Wakanda, part of a plan to bring Thanos to Wakanda?
It looks like the Avengers are actually using the Infinity Stones to their advantage as a way to bait Thanos. While Tony says this line we see shots of Doctor Strange with Eye of Agamotto and Vision who is of course the one in possession of the Mind Stone. Now what I’ve been wondering this whole time is “Where the hell is the soul stone, is it in Wakanda?!”. Watching this trailer again it’s clear that Vision is now in Wakanda. So it looks like they’re protecting him instead of the soul stone which makes sense to me. Tony’s line above shows that have some type of plan where they are using Vision to draw Thanos to Wakanda. I mean why not they clearly have the best weapons by being the most technological advanced country in the world. This explains why half of the Avengers are in Wakanda during this trailer and most likely for the majority of the movie.
Also in this trailer we get to see shots of Thanos’s own team the ‘Black Order’ which includes characters like Proxima Midnight, Loki, Ebony Maw, Corvus Glaive and Cull Obsidian. It’s interesting that when we first see all of them together in the same shot they’re also standing with Loki. I’m not sure if Loki is on their side or if this is from when they first meet when we Thanos’s ship turned up at the Thor: Ragnarok. Ebony Maw is the one who looks like he is about to kill Doctor Strange in that crazy shot.
Now my favourite shot of the entire trailer comes at the end where Cap stands up to Thanos. I literally screamed “No way”. I know Cap is a super soldier but it’s crazy to see him match his power on the big screen. This shot is exactly reminiscent of an iconic shot from the comics where Cap stands in the way of Thanos and goes toe to toe with him. It’s also important to note that throughout both trailers Thanos only has two Infinity Stones on his gauntlet. One being the Space Stone (blue) we saw in the first Avengers movie. We actually see a shot of Thanos crushing the Tesseract turning it into a stone for his gauntlet. The second stone he has on his gauntlet is the Power Stone (purple) which we last saw in Guardians of The Galaxy. Will we see Thanos collect all the stones during this film or will that be the ending shot?
Other than the epic fight scenes and dialogue from Thanos this trailer still shows there is some fun to be had with this film as we see characters start to meet up. Everyone except Hawkeye of course the poor guy. We get to see Cap, Black Widow and Banner turn up at Wakanda to meet T’Challa and Shuri. We see the Guardians of the Galaxy meet Tony Stark as Starlord tells him his plan sucks. The last shot of the trailer is dedicated to a great scene between Doctor Strange and Spider-Man where they are introducing themselves to each other.
I don’t know what else to say, this was a great trailer. I was worried they wouldn’t be able to live up to the first trailer because I loved it so much but they did. Right now we are only one month away before this film comes out, I can’t believe it. This is about to be the longest month ever!
Let me know what you thought of the trailer down below!
We are just one month away from one of the biggest comic book movies ever. It feels like forever since we got that first trailer for Infinity War back in November last year. Now we are finally getting the second trailer tomorrow! The Russo Brothers did hint that the trailer would be coming sometime this week on Twitter with themselves asking for the trailer. Well it looks like we don’t have to wait much longer now as the Marvel Studios Twitter account posted a video with the tagline ‘Tomorrow’.
As for what I hope to see from the trailer I honestly don’t know. I loved the first trailer so much I don’t know how they’ll top that but I trust them. I’ll be fine with just one trailer if it were up to me because I’m that hyped for the trailer.
Here’s a list of what I want to see from this upcoming trailer:
Reference to where the soul stone maybe located
More interactions with characters we haven’t seen before
More scenes in Wakanda
Focus a little more on Thanos, especially the Children of Thanos
Are there anymore locations in this which we haven’t explored yet?
Shots of characters we haven’t seen yet (Hulk not Banner, Hawkeye, Ant-Man)
That’s all I have for my expectations… Not a lot I know mainly because of that first trailer but I trust Marvel will hit it out the park again with this trailer.
Let me know your expectations for the trailer tomorrow
Be sure to come back here tomorrow as I will have a full breakdown/review of the trailer.
One of the biggest comic book movies ever has not got a new release date. Initially set to be released on May 4th in North America Avengers: Infinity War will now be released a week earlier on April 27th worldwide! This was done to match up with the release dates of the European markets which is a smart decision in my opinion, especially great for trying fans to avoid spoilers because people like me were going to see it a week earlier (not that I would spoil it though). Like Marvel does they have their own way of doing things and they announced this new release date publicly in a twitter conversation between Robert Downey Jr. and the Marvel Studios Twitter account. RDJ asked “Any chance I could see it earlier?”.
Here was their response:
Just like that they announced a new release date for their biggest movie ever! While I loved seeing Marvel films early because I live in the UK I love this news. Honestly it was hard for me not to talk about films that released a week earlier without going into spoilers.
Between now and the release of Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War in May I will be attempting to review the majority of the MCU films that will lead up to this land mark film. I originally planned to review every single MCU however I don’t have enough time to as I am currently in my third year of university which unfortunately occupies a lot of my spare time right now. So I decided I would review the major films of the MCU not necessarily each one. But I felt like it was only right to begin with the film that started it all. Iron Man released way back in 2008, who knew how important this film would be and where it would lead us to today. Part of me actually wanted to review this film for personal reasons, honestly I’m not really the biggest fan of Iron Man as a character. I’m more of a Captain America guy. Prior to watching this film last night I believe I’ve only watched this film like twice. Every time I see Iron Man in someone’s top 5 list I say in my head “Was that film really that good?” Not that I thought it was bad it’s just that I didn’t really remember anything from it. Well it’s safe to say after watching it last night for the first time in years I totally understand why people hold this film in such high regard, It’s so great!
What makes this film so great? Robert Downey Jr! Having watched all of his MCU performances I believe this one is his best, he makes it look so easy. You believe that he’s actually tony stark in real life. It’s funny to see how the character of Tony Stark hasn’t changed at all since this film. He’s still that snarky, self-confident, arrogant billionaire that we see in the recent MCU movies. Robert Downey Jr. does a great job at portraying the Tony who care about nothing but himself, to the more emotional Tony as we see after he escapes from the cave and he realises that he was saved for a reason. He sees what his weapons are doing in the Middle East in the hands of the wrong people and chooses to shut down his Stark manufacturing programme and hunt these people down. I also really like Tony’s relationship with Pepper Potts in this film which also brings the emotional side out of Tony, she almost acts like an anchor that constantly pulls Tony back to reality.
As for the story of this film I really found it compelling and a strong aspect of the film. Given the time of its release the issues brought up in this film were very relevant at the time and even today with the subject of war and terrorism. Although Tony is seen as a hero to many with his manufacturing of war weapons he is also seen as a war criminal. What happens when the weapons you built get into the hands of the enemy and is used to kill innocents and your own people? This movie tackles this issue brilliantly. The scenes set in the cave after the explosion which lodges shrapnel into Tony’s chest are some of my favourite scenes. You get to see how much of a genius tony really is in creating this early suit who is stripped down to nothing. The creation of the first suit provides for some great action scenes that are spread throughout the movie, for example with the breakout from the cave. Let me just say for a film that was released 10 years ago these visual effects hold up really well they’re great!
Now I’m not going to go into every single detail of the film but I would like to share my favourite scenes with you guys. The first being when Tony takes the Mark II suit on it’s first flight test, I love this scene! It looked, sounded and was acted out perfectly. This flight scene almost encapsulates what Tony is all about. In his first flight he straightaway wants to push the suit to the limit by going above 85,000 feet. You get to see the joy an relief on his face when he is able to save himself from the suit freezing over. Again this scene is accompanied by great visual effects. The second scene that stood out to me is where he introduces himself to the military by accident… well kind of. I love how Tony is just having an on going conversation with James Rhodes while his life is in danger. It just shows the strength of Robert Downey Jr. as an actor being someone that can pull this off and making it seem believable.
As for the main villain Obadiah well… he was average at best, you saw it coming a mile off that he was going to betray Tony and he was behind it all. I mean he wasn’t terrible but there’s a reason why people don’t mention him at all when it comes to the best comic book villains ever. What he did provide for was another favourite scene of mine which is where Obadiah extracts the arc reactor from Tony’s chest, it was just brutal to watch. That one scene kind of encapsulates what I love most about this film in how they dealt with the tone. There was a good mix of both light and dark moments which I feel has been a real struggle for recent MCU films.
Overall I really enjoyed revisiting this movie and I have to admit I didn’t realise how great this movie really is. This may have sneaked into my top 5 comic book films ever. I think I’m turning into a huge Iron Man fan now, I can’t wait to re-watch the sequels which from what I remember aren’t the best but Robert Downey Jr has me exited to revisit them.
Let me know what you think of Iron Man? Does it rank high amongst your top comic book films?
With the official trailer for Avengers Infinity War set to drop in the next couple of months I figured I’d write about one of the most important aspects of the MCU which is the Infinity Gauntlet. We have been building up to this for several years now and it will soon come to fruition next summer. The Infinity Gauntlet is made up of individual stones that have featured in the MCU from the first Captain America: The First Avenger movie to the latest one in Doctor Strange. With Thanos set to complete the Infinity Gauntlet I would like to provide information on all of the Infinity Stones such as where they are, their purpose and their power. After all Thanos with the completed Infinity Gauntlet could spell the end for the MCU as we know it.
Space stone (Blue)
The Space stone is one you may be the most familiar with (also known as the ‘Tesseract’) which was at the centre of the Avengers Assemble film. Given to Loki by Thanos himself he was tasked to invade earth with this stone that allowed him to teleport anywhere and create wormholes for the Chitauri army to invade earth. Not only has Loki used the Space stone the Red Skull has developed weapons for HYDRA as we saw in the Captain America film. The last time we saw the Space Stone it was being taken back to Asgard along with Loki by Thor at the end of Avengers Assemble.
Mind Stone (Yellow)
Again very similar to the Space Stone the Mind Stone was actually located inside Loki’s sceptre which was further explored in Avengers: Age of Ultron. The Mind Stone is what allowed Loki take over people’s minds and make them follow his instructions as we saw with Hawkeye. Later the Mind Stone fell into the hands of HYDRA as we saw at the end of Captain America: Winter Soldier who used it to develop the powers for the likes Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. What makes the Mind Stone arguably the most interesting for fans is that it was used to help create Vision which is currently in the centre of his head. For Thanos to obtain the Mind stone surely it would mean that Vision’s life would be lost in the process.
Reality Stone (Red)
The Reality Stone was introduced to us early on in Thor: The Dark World which also goes by the name Aether. Although when we saw the Reality Stone it was in its liquid form it still counts as an Infinity stone. What we do know about the stone is that it had the power if used correctly to destroy Asgard as we saw from the movie. The stone currently sits in The Collector’s museum who will certainly be getting a visit from Thanos sometime soon.
Power Stone (Purple)
The Power Stone featured heavily in the Guardians of the Galaxy film as it was at the centre of its plot. First in the possession of Star Lord who obtained it in the temple was looking to cash in on the foreign object without knowing its full potential. Now with a little bit of knowledge given to us by The Collector we know that this stone has the power to destroy planets such as Xander. It gives the holder of the stone the a level of power they never able to reach before. So it was crucial that Ronin didn’t get his hands on this stone it let alone Thanos as he wanted to destroy Xander which he would have accomplished with ease. By the end of the film now knowing the true power of the stone it was give to the Nova Prime to lock in a vault to make sure it was in safe hands.
Time Stone (Green)
The Time Stone also known as the Eye of Agamotto is the stone we have been most recently introduced to in last year’s Doctor Strange. The Time Stone has been around for centuries and now finally has someone with the right skill and knowledge to use it and its owner is Stephen Strange. This stone allows its owner to control one of the most important aspects of life which is time. As we saw in Doctor Strange the person in control of the stone can manipulate time by stopping it, reversing time and even creating a time loop. The Eye of Agamotto currently is in the possession of Doctor Strange and is sometimes worn around his neck. Given it’s great abilities how important could stone be? Could it be used to bring people back to life? or replay specific events?
Soul Stone (Orange)
The Soul stone is one that may not be too familiar with the average comic book fan mainly because it’s current whereabouts in the MCU is unknown. Kevin Feige recently when questioned if the Soul Stone will be used claimed “Sometime in Phase Three, for sure. There’s a Gauntlet that needs to be filled.” This stone arguably is one of the most powerful ones as stated by its name it gives you control over souls. Not just over the souls of people that are alive but also dead too. To sum it up this stone allows its host to control all types of life in the universe. It would be interesting to see if this stone could be used to bring any characters back to life.
Second Infinity Gauntlet?
Update: After watching Thor: Ragnarok this second gauntlet it proven to be a fake*
Yes, there is a second Infinity Gauntlet that exists if you didn’t know! It appeared in Thor: The Dark World blink and you miss it literally. All that we know about this second Gauntlet is that it was located in Odin’s vault and it’s for the right hand. Could this Infinity Gauntlet eventually be used by one of the Avengers? I could totally see Tony Stark somehow getting his hands on this. It’s highly unlikely that we will see Thanos control two Infinity Gauntlets at the same time that would be over the top. Also if you notice one of the most interesting aspects of this second Infinity Gauntlet is that all the stones are there already.
Let me know what you think about the Infinity Stones down below? Do the Avengers even stand a chance once Thanos in possession of all of the Infinity Stones?
Thanos is set to wreak havoc upon the Avengers when their worlds finally collide in next summer’s blockbuster Avenger’s Infinity War part one. Every Marvel film from the first Avengers to Civil war felt like at the time the biggest film ever but Marvel have outdone themselves again with Infinity War being their biggest film ever. Now if there’s one criticism that I have of Marvel films its they don’t take enough risks. I’m not sure if it has any connection with the Disney deal but Marvel have become quite predictable whereas DC killed Superman I want to see Marvel try the same with one of their beloved characters. I feel that to solidify the threat of Thanos he will have to leave an impact on the Marvel cinematic universe that would be felt forever. If anyone is to die in Avengers Infinity War I believe one of these 5 characters could see their last outing.
Hawkeye is a character where it makes a lot of sense that this could be the last time we see his as an Avenger. When it comes to Hawkeye many feel that that we have gotten the most out of the character as possible and what else is left for him. Will we ever see a solo Hawkeye movie come to screen? in my opinion it’s very unlikely. It looked inevitable that Hawkeye was set to depart the Avengers one way or the other in Age of Ultron. We spent a good amount of the film with Hawkeye and his family as he was considering leaving the team to spend more time with his family. The only reason why Hawkeye seems to still be around the Avengers is because his life was saved by QuickSilver and he owes it to the rest of the team to stick around. If it was not for that heartfelt moment, I think Hawkeye would have hung up his crossbow and arrows to spend time with his family on his farm.
Thor dying would definitely shake up the Marvel Universe and would certainly show Thanos as a genuine threat by taking out the God of Thunder. Now the future of Thor does depend on the events during Thor 3 Ragnarok which will be released this November before infinity war, so we will get a clearer picture then. Thor Ragnarok is crucial for the character’s future as we get answers for questions such as will there be a fourth Thor film or could that be it for him? Another reason why the death of Thor could be a possibility is that his presence was not missed in Civil War to be honest but that may just be a personal view. This does show that there can be Avengers films without Thor. Most importantly when it comes to the topic of Thor dying fans would want to know the impact his death would have on fan favourite Loki We’ll have to wait and see.
The death of Captain America would certainly draw a few tears in the theatres around the world especially from me if it were to happened. Chris Evans cannot play the role of Captain America forever and it’s unknown about his contract situation with Marvel or how long he even wants to continue playing this role for. Some may ask “well what about Iron man, why can’t he die?” I too was asking the same about Iron-Man’s future in this franchise yet seeing Iron man’s role in Spider-man homecoming shows that his character still has a crucial role to play upcoming Marvel films. One storyline from the comic books is that Captain America’s partner The Falcon eventually becomes the Captain of America. Marvel to their credit has done a great job at pushing diversity for their star roles so maybe Captain America will be in Infinity war two, just not the Chris Evan’s version.
The death of Vision is a no brainer and should be featured on any similar list. Vision’s death seems most likely for the simple fact that he is made of an infinity stone. To complete the infinity gauntlet all the gems are required, this means Thanos would certainly need to take the infinity gem from Vision which would indeed kill him. If not kill him then could vision could potentially become a threat to the Avengers as he could be controlled by Thanos through his Infinity Gem. Given that this death does seem so obvious amongst comic book fans it could be possible that the writer’s find a way around it and throw us a swerve leaving him to survive you never know.
Yes EVERYONE just imagine that, leaving the theatres with the whole avengers gone and not knowing what will happen for part two. Ok I understand that this is most unlikely theory to occur of all my predictions and would be a huge risk for the film writers to take. My personal take would be that what if most of the avengers die (like we saw in Tony Stark’s vision in Age of Ultron) and its up to the likes of Doctor Strange arguably the most crucial member to save the universe as he did in his standalone film by turning back time.
