This year in Spider-Man: Far From Home we will get to see one of Spidey’s most famous villains on the big screen for the first time ever. Given how great Michael Keaton was as ‘Vulture’ in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Jake Gyllenhaal, has a lot of pressure to perform going into this role. Part of what makes Mysterio so beloved amongst Spider-Man fans is the character’s iconic look, with the fishbowl helmet in particular. Back in January, when the first trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home was released we got a good at Mysterio in action. But with the character flying through the air it’s kind of hard to examine all the little details on the suit. Today some promo art has leaked which I believe gives us our best look at Mysterio’s costume yet. With art you always get to see the finer details and what the creators were going for. And I was a fan of the suit at first anyway, but with this new look I love the suit even more. It’s slowly becoming one of my favourite suits in the MCU.
Take a look for yourself below:
I just love the way this suit looks! Not to mention I really liked the design of Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming too. I got to admit they’re doing a good job over there at Marvel with their villains so far. With the Fox and Disney deal completed I can’t help but think what Dr. Doom will look like in the MCU.
Let me know your thoughts on the suit down below.
Spider-Man: Far From Home is set to be released on 5 July, 2019
For months it seemed like whenever Jake Gyellenhaal’s name was brought he was constantly linked with replacing Ben Affleck for the role of Batman. Now it seems Gyellenhaal is finally joining the superhero universe but not to play the Caped Crusader but for a more villainous role as Mysterio in the upcoming Spider-Man Homecoming sequel. It was reported just a couple of minutes ago by The HollyWood Reporter that he’s talks for the role with nothing confirmed yet. With the sequel looking to start production sometime this summer I do believe this will be confirmed sooner rather than later. They must have been talking for sometime and who knows the deal could have already been done, you never know with Hollywood. Even if the deal breaks down somehow what it does confirm is the studio are using Mysterio as the main villain for the film. We have already seen the Vulture be introduced with the first movie and now with Mysterio they have already made up two of the members of the iconic Sinister Six. It does look like they’re eventually building up to the Sinister Six as that was Sony’s initial plan with the Garfield movies but we most likely won’t seen the Sinister Six on the big screen until the third of fourth Spider-Man movie.
Here’s just a brief history between Spider-Man and Mysterio in the comics who also goes by the name Quentin Beck:
Debuting in The Amazing Spider-Man #13, Mysterio is Quentin Beck, a special effects wizard and stunt man working for a major Hollywood studio with dreams of making a name for himself in the film industry. However, he came to see his career in special effects as a dead-end job. His attempts to become an actor were poorly received, but he realized that his expertise in illusions could make him an effective supervillain.
In his first battle with Spider-Man, after he frames Spider-Man for robbing the Midtown Museum, Mysterio obstructs the hero’s spider-sense with gas and dissolves Spider-Man’s webbing with a chemical abrasive. However Spider-Man tricks Mysterio into revealing he robbed the museum, then Spider-Man revealed he had captured it on tape. Mysterio was then jailed, blaming Spider-Man for his ruined career. Mysterio later joins the Sinister Six in an attempt at revenge on Spider-Man, and battles him using robots of the X-Men. After this Spider-Man gets a card that enables him to go on to battle Sandman.
Mysterio later creates the alias of world-renowned psychiatrist Dr. Ludwig Rinehart, using technology and hypnosis in an attempt to make Spider-Man lose his mind, and nearly convincing him to unmask, though ironically Spider-Man was helped by J. Jonah Jameson suddenly bursting into the house. Spider-Man then unmasked Mysterio.
What this news also means is that the rumours surrounding Ben Affleck being replaced by Jake Gyellenhaal will also stop, thanfully. So this should actually be good news to anyone who wants to see Ben Affleck continue playing the role of the Batman.
The sequel to Spider-Man Homecoming is set to be released next year on July 5, 2019
