Official: Robert Pattinson to Play Batman

FINALLY! After months on speculation we finally have our new Batman. Earlier this month Deadline reported that the search for the new Caped Crusader had dwindled down to Robert Pattinson and Nicholas Hoult. Yesterday, it was reported by The Wrap that both actors were doing screen tests for the role. And today, it looks like we got the results of those screen tests with Pattinson winning the role. This is amazing news, but the thing that got me most excited about this story is how Deadline in their report confirmed Pattinson will be the face of Matt Reeves’ trilogy. What a time to be a Batman fan! To have a trilogy directed by Christopher Nolan and Matt Reeves is truly a blessing. I also want to spare a thought for Nicholas Hoult for missing out because this is a role of a lifetime. However, since he done screen tests I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up playing a different role in the movie. Clearly Matt Reeves and the studio think highly of him. Either way I’m finally happy we got confirmation. It was also reported the project is set to start filming at the start of next year. So keep your eyes peeled this summer. I think we’re going to be hearing a lot more casting news for The Batman

The Batman is set to be released on 25 June, 2021

Robert Pattinson to Play Batman in Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman’?

Just an hour ago social media exploded when Variety dropped a bombshell on us. They finally gave us what we have been waiting for. Who will be taking over the mantle from Ben Affleck as the caped crusader? Variety are pretty confident Robert Pattinson will be stepping into the iconic role. They claim a deal hasn’t been made yet, but Matt Reeves had him in mind while writing the script. While I was just taking in this news Deadline also released their own report on the potential casting. Both outlets agree that a deal hasn’t been made final yet. But where they differ is Deadline claiming that Robert Pattinson isn’t the only person in contention for the role. Deadline states that both Robert Pattinson and Nicholas Hoult are at the top of Warner Bros. list. However, Deadline’s report does seem to imply that Pattinson is the favourite for the role by claiming “the bat suit isn’t filled yet and that they like both guys, with Pattinson holding the edge”. This is a bit frustrating isn’t it? We finally get the news we wanted, but nothing has been confirmed yet. I guess we gotta sit tight and be patient, as if we haven’t already been doing that for several months. I have a feeling it will end up Robert Pattinson taking the role. But you never know with Hollywood.

The Batman Gets Release Date As Affleck Hangs Up Cape

Information about Matt Reeves’ upcoming Batman movie has slowly been surfacing in the past 24 hours. Earlier today, we got an interview with Matt Reeves talking about what direction he’s going to be taking the movie in, along with a potential release date. Well, several hours later we now have a release date for the movie confirmed. But it comes as a bittersweet moment as it has finally been confirmed Ben Affleck will not be returning to the cowl. Starting with the good. We finally have a release date! Deadline with an exclusive confirmed Matt Reeves’ Batman movie is set to be released on June 25, 2021.

Ben Affleck – Batman no more…

Now for the bad news…well for me since Ben Affleck’s Batman is my favourite portrayal of the character so far. Deadline, in the same report also claimed that Affleck is going to hang up the cowl as the movie is set to be focused on a much younger Batman. At first when reading this report it felt like the same old stuff that has come out about Affleck leaving the role in the past.

Then Affleck took to Twitter and retweeted the article and stating how he was looking forward to seeing where director Matt Reeves takes the project. We all know this was most likely going to happen, but it still sucks to get the confirmation. Throughout the past couple of years it’s been tough watching Affleck going from directing, writing and starring in the Batman movie to ending up doing none of them at all now.

Regardless, no actor will be bigger than the actor for me and I’ll be there on opening night in June 2021. While I’m kinda fed up that I never got my Batfleck solo movie I can’t lie I’m still excited about the future of Batman without Ben Affleck. I can’t wait to see who takes on the cowl next.

Thanks for everything Ben!

Matt Reeves Details His ‘Noir’ Driven Batman Movie

Information on Matt Reeves’ upcoming Batman movie has been scarce. Matt Reeves has been fairly quite since he came onto the project. He’s keeping things a mystery and keeping the fans guessing. Granted, he has done interviews in the past where he’s given us little snippets on his Batman film, but not enough as of yet. Today, he sat down with The Hollywood Reporter and actually gave us quite a detailed look into his Batman film from the potential villains, the story and the most important thing, the release date.

He are the key points to take away from this interview:

A Noir driven story

Lesley Goldberg:“So, Batman. Tell us your take”

Matt Reeves “It’s very much a point of view-driven, noir Batman tale. It’s told very squarely on his shoulders, and I hope it’s going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional. It’s more Batman in his detective mode than we’ve seen in the films. The comics have a history of that. He’s supposed to be the world’s greatest detective, and that’s not necessarily been a part of what the movies have been. I’d love this to be one where when we go on that journey of tracking down the criminals and trying to solve a crime, it’s going to allow his character to have an arc so that he can go through a transformation.”

Confirmation there will be more than one villain in the movie:

Lesley Goldberg: “Have you begun the casting process?”

Matt Reeves:There will be a Rogues Gallery. The casting process will begin shortly. We’re starting to put together our battle plan. I’m doing another pass on the script and we’ll begin some long-lead stuff to start developing conceptual things.

Potential 2021 release date

Lesley Goldberg: “What’s your goal as far as a release date?”

Matt Reeves: “We haven’t been dated. I wouldn’t commit to this, but we’re thinking the movie would probably be for 2021, late spring or summer. Warner Bros. has been incredibly supportive and given me a lot of time and shared the same passion that I do for this story.”

Overall, there were three key things to take away from this interview. The first being how the story is going to be noir driven. Now he’s already told us this like five times already. But, it’s great to hear it again anyway. It looks like he’s going to be taking the character back to his roots. The second thing to take away is the use of multiple villains who will link in with this noir driven story. We all know Batman has one of the greatest rogues gallery. Given the type of story he’s going for my best guess would be that the Riddler is going to be one of the villains.

And now for the most important part of the interview. The release date. 2021 feels like a realistic release date since the project hasn’t even started filming yet. Keep in mind, we still haven’t had confirmation on if Ben Affleck is going to return to the role. Either way Matt Reeves has been saying all of the right things about his Batman movie. As a huge Batman fan this sounds like the movie of my dreams.

Matt Reeves Submits First Draft Of The Batman Script

It feels like Matt Reeves’ Batman movie has been in development forever. Information surrounding the project has been scarce. Matt Reeves has been tight-lipped during the whole process, and I don’t blame him. However, in the past couple of months he has slowly been giving up updates. One of the major things he revealed was how he’s close to submitting his first draft for the script. While Matt Reeves hasn’t publicity stated that he’s submitted the first draft yet. Umberto Gonzalez responding to a fan on Twitter last night revealed the first draft has been submitted to the studio.

This could also most likely explain Matt Reeves’ trip to the Batman ’66 exhibition last week. It’s possible he was taking a well deserved break after submitting the script.

People have their own thoughts and opinions on Umberto as a source. Personally I find him to be pretty reliable. And I trust him here. With the first draft submitted this should hopefully mean the studio are still on track to start shooting the project next spring!

Rumour: Penguin To Be The Main Villain In ‘The Batman’

The Batman movie which will be directed by Matt Reeves is slowly becoming one of the most anticipated comic book movies ever. One question that has been on the minds of Batman fans like myself is “Who are they going to pick as the main villain?”. Batman to this day still has one of the strongest rogues gallery when it comes to main villains. Matt Reeves is really spoilt for choice when it comes to picking the main villain for this film. while we haven’t had much information on the film so far Justin Kroll who is pretty reliable might have just revealed the main villain for The Batman movie.

The last time we saw the Penguin on the big screen was back in 1992 with Batman Returns. Penguin would make a formidable opponent for Batman even if he doesn’t look like it. Depending on how the character will be portrayed Cobblepot is someone that can grow to have extensive political influence along with his wealth. One thing to note is Penguin usually surrounds himself with henchmen. I bring this up because it will be interesting to see if they pair him up with another villain. Could we possibly see the Penguin and the Riddler team up against Batman. If not you could also throw the likes of Hugo Strange or Black Mask in the mix. Just the thought of pairing up these villains against Batman has me excited. Now as for who would play the Penguin I’ve seen some fans mention Josh Gad names which I would be fine with. But as we know with the DCEU as Justin Kroll states they could changed plans tomorrow. We just have to be patient, this movie will be ready when Matt Reeves feels like it’s ready.

Here’s a brief background on Cobblepot (via. Wikipedia)

The Penguin is a master criminal who aspires to be wealthy, powerful and respected (or at least feared) by Gotham’s high society. The Penguin’s wealth gives him access to better resources than most other Batman villains, and he is able to mix with Gotham’s elite, especially those he plans to target in his future crimes. He is also capable of returning to his luxurious lifestyle very easily despite his violent criminal history and prison record. He has even attempted multiple times to enter the political world, even launching expensive election campaigns. The Penguin also has strong connections with other criminal kingpins across Gotham, allowing him to hire their assassins and workers or to spy on them easily. The Penguin relies on cunning, wit, and intimidation to exploit his surroundings for profit, and despite his short temper, he is normally depicted as being more rational and sane than other Batman villains, or at least relatively so.

Although he often delegates the dirty work to his henchmen, he is not above taking aggressive and lethal actions on his own, especially when provoked. In spite of his appearance and stature, he is a dangerous hand-to-hand combatant with enough self-taught skills in judo, fencing, ninjutsu and bare-knuckle boxing to overwhelm attackers many times his size and physical bearing. The Penguin is usually portrayed as a capable physical combatant when he feels the situation calls for it, but his level of skill varies widely depending on the author; the character has been written both as a physical match for Batman and as someone the masked vigilante is capable of defeating with a solid punch. His crimes often revolve around stealing valuable bird-related items and his car and other vehicles often have an avian theme

Do you think the Penguin would make a great main villain for The Batman movie?
